After 15 years at @Seedgrowers — including five as executive director — Doug Miller is stepping down. From controversial digitization to leading Seed Regulatory Modernization, his tenure reshaped how Canada’s seed certification system operates. Not flashy change. Difficult change. The kind that sticks. hubs.li/Q044b5sQ0

Can someone or multiple someones tell me why I as a farmer should be excited about 7 billion dollars in capital for ag? One ask I have- if you vaguely say it supports innovations or unlocks potential could you be more specific or for bonus points site examples and show your work

The Liberals love to lecture Canadians about trusting the science, yet they are closing 7 agriculture research stations. The Liberals are out of touch with reality once again.

Thank you @AndrewScheer for raising the importance of AAFC’s Indian Head Research Station today. This facility is key enabler of our seed system in Canada and its closure will impact CDN farmers for generations to come.
Andrew Scheer@AndrewScheer

Farmers rely on the Indian Head Research Farm for real-world science on soil, crops, and pest resilience. How can Liberals claim there’s no money to keep it open when they CAN find $8 million for gender-just rice in Vietnam? Watch the video to see them dodge the question:

@AquaCanada Lots of great data to back up those investments too. In wheat variety development, we have a 33:1 benefit-to-cost ratio. Super high ROI. For a government that told us they wanted to spend less and invest more, this seemed like a great fit.

@millerdk03 Agreed Doug. Not only plant or crop development, but poultry, porcine, bovine , fish, & dairy have benefitted from partnerships in risk sharing with feds in pedigree / genetic development. Needed more now, with climate adaptation. Canada has the tools, needs to invest in Ag.

The potential impacts to Canada’s seed sector are significant. Our early estimates suggest that roughly 20–25% of Canada’s pedigreed seed acres trace back to breeder seed produced at Indian Head, one of the stations rumoured to be closing. If that station closes, the downstream implications to our seed supply would be substantial. This isn't just a wheat issue - this impacts cereals, forages, pulses, and severely impacts niche crop kinds. We will be monitoring this closely, but there are still many unknowns at this stage. @JohnBarlowMP @shaunhaney @KelvinHeppner

AAFC research facilities, including the Lacombe Centre and Nappan Farm, face closure due to federal budget cuts, according to reports. MLA Elizabeth Smith-McCrossin calls it "devastating" for communities. Details here: ow.ly/rQfa50Y1rb7 #cdnag #westcdnag #farming #agriculture

Back in the summer, I wrote this op-ed on what we were seeing unfolding at AAFC. Really feel for those impacted. 'Plant breeding operates on decade-long timelines. The varieties farmers will need in 2035 are being worked on now — or should be. Every gap in capacity, every retirement that isn’t backfilled, every shelved research program is a decision with consequences that will be felt for a generation.' seedworld.com/canada/2025/06…

After 15 years with the Canadian Seed Growers’ Association, I’ve decided not to renew my contract as Executive Director and will be stepping away from the Association in the months ahead. This was a hard decision, but the timing is right. CSGA is in a great place: a clear strategy, strong finances, a talented team, and real momentum behind a more modern seed system for Canada. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built together. My family and I will be relocating internationally, with more details to come in the months ahead. I’m looking forward to taking a moment to pause, settle into a new city and country, and then explore what comes next professionally. I remain deeply committed to seed, agriculture, and innovation – that part isn’t changing. Over the coming months, I’ll be working closely with the Board as they search for CSGA’s next Executive Director and to help ensure a smooth transition that maintains the momentum CSGA has generated. To the seed growers, staff, board members, provincial branches, CFIA colleagues, and partners I’ve had the privilege to work with over the past 15 years - thank you. It has been an honour to serve this amazing community, and I have loved every minute of it. Onwards. 🌱

@rgstone1 @fordnation I'm in London this week with my family and am seeing these Chinese EVs up close for the first time (BYD mostly). They look great and I feel they would do very well in the GTA.

I have retyped my snarky responses to this brain dead rhetoric several times now. Can’t seem to quite get it right so just judge for yourselves how dumb this is @fordnation placing a pretend EV industry ahead of an actual current significant economic driver. #teamcanada l 🇨🇦
Doug Ford@fordnation

Canada’s tariffs on Chinese-made EVs are critical to protecting more than 157,000 direct jobs in Ontario and hundreds of thousands of indirect jobs across the country. For the sake of these workers’ livelihoods, the federal government needs to maintain its 100 per cent tariffs.
