@LaurenDalyce Are supply managed foods more expensive in Canada relative to other foods? Yes. Are supply managed foods more expensive in Canada relative to other animal agriculture foods? Not very.
English

@LaurenDalyce Yes, but not without limitations. Unweighted average price premium of SM foods in Canada relative to USA is ~30-40%. Chicken prices much higher.
English

Thank you to the Canadian Agri-Food Policy Conference for the opportunity to present some of the research that @mikevonmassow and I have been working on.

Congratulations to the winners of #CAES #CAPC2021 Student Poster competition! 🥇@mitchgingerich @FAREUofG, 🥈 Jennifer Syme @UAlbertaREES , and🥉 Jon Duan @uvic 👏👏

@LaurenDalyce The markets are extremely different, ranging from market size, product quality, pricing strategy, time lag for the exchange rate to impact prices etc. Most food is more expensive in Canada anyways, so the total blame can't go to SM.
English

@LaurenDalyce However, using generalized price data does not represent represent consumer expenditure. Do you buy cheese and yogurt at full price?
English

@SimonSomogyiAFI @FoodProfessor Do you believe this will ever come to fruition and be the new normal in North America? I loved paying exactly the price on the menu during previous travel.
English

@FoodProfessor As a former resident of a country that has all inclusive restaurant pricing and a higher minimum wage: yes

One Toronto restaurant has started adding 18 per cent to every bill.

A balanced perspective on the current state of the dairy industry in Canada. Supply management is not at fault, consumers are not at fault, and farmers are not at fault. Simply a shock to the supply chain.
