"But energy prices are set in world markets"... This lazy argument against using the UK's own oil and gas reserves has been debunked many times, but here are some key points... 🧵 1️⃣ this claim might be true of oil, but not of natural gas (which is much cheaper in the US)...

.@Ofcom is exploring new restrictions on livestreaming, including limits on under-18s’ ability to interact. To inform the debate over this proposal, CCIA commissioned Public First to survey users of all ages on why they livestream and the social, educational, and economic benefits they gain. buff.ly/p38uVPm

In the first six months of 2025, only 2,158 private homes were started in London. In Auckland -- a city that is 1/5 the size -- 7,036 homes were consented over the same period.

🧵 The UK is planning to strengthen the copyright regime by exposing text-and-data mining to mandatory licensing. This could be lose-lose: moderately slower AI adoption would cost between £1300-2300 per year from reduced productivity growth. Creators would in turn get pennies.

@SeanTrende It was a big thing in 90s video games: Tie Fighter; Dungeon Keeper; part of plenty of others. Not convinced it's new at all. Can be playful transgression, exploring setting, all sorts of other non-sinister motivations.

One thing I honestly can't decide if it's a genuine concern or my just being old and curmudgeonly: The rise of "evil = fun" in kid culture. When I was a kid, being the "bad guy" just wasn't a super-popular Halloween option. Games didn't have evil playthroughs. 1/

This is important research. Startup support has been both a shining success and a dismal failure historically. As TEN say 'not all created equal' and worth reflecting on what works best / how to do better.

🏎️🚨NEW! Startup support programmes are booming. But how well are they performing? For founders, navigating them can be difficult. Too often, it’s unclear which programmes are high-quality, how long they’ll last, or what outcomes they actually deliver. 🧶Here’s what we found..

These kinds of investments are the tip of an iceberg of wider impacts, particularly improved services for British consumers and businesses (from Amazon and its competitors.)
CCIA UK@uk_CCIA

Amazon has just announced plans to invest £40 billion in the UK over the next 3 years. This will create thousands of new jobs nationwide. This includes new fulfilment centres in Hull, Northampton, East Midlands, two London offices, and expansions with +100 sites in the UK. 1/2
