My take that pisses everyone off: It is impossible to be a Canadian nationalist while denigrating the significance or relevance of the French language. The single greatest differentiator between Canada and the United States is the existence of Québec.

Imagine you’re the CEO of Air Canada…. ….sleepless and dealing with a brutal tragedy in real time with vast US and Canadian media coverage - and your PM decides to hit you with a cheap shot saying you lack ‘compassion’ because you lack excellent French language skills. But you’re the CEO of a regulated industry so he knows you can’t punch back. Even though his own French is carefully stage-managed. And the Governor General can barely speak it. @KnightLegg Elegantly put. The real tragedy here is the loss of two young lives and a lifetime of suffering for their families and friends and an Air Traffic Controller who has to live with it. Separately, the Plane and Pilots worked for Chorus Aviation and not AC. Both publicly Listed.

@MacWillco @TheReclamare Neither PLANE or PILOTS are Air Canada’s. Both plane and Pilots work for a Publicly Traded Company: Chorus Aviation. Air Canada only owns 8% of the Shares. Chorus is headquartered in HALIFAX , NOVA SCOTIA .

@TheReclamare I disagree. Air Canada's corporate headquarters is in Saint-Laurent, Quebec. The flight was from Montreal, with a majority of the passengers being Québécois (and at least one pilot I believe).
