@mark395625 Hardly a fair comparison though. The costs of operating a Railtour are big and growing. Massive competition for a cheap weekend abroad and artificially low prices. How on earth does a £30 air fare reflect the realistic costs….E* also simper to run…

So been looking at other rail tours, once I add the tour, hotel, food and supplements, it works out cheaper to go abroad.

@juoig7799 @AlexiKCRL @GWRHelp There’s a train in 15 minutes so it’s actually a 16 minute connection. You can just randomly change the timetable to meet one connection. So work better than others. There will be many reasons why it can’t ’just be moved’.

@AlexiKCRL @GWRHelp Yes, but it's still infuriating to have to wait, if that connection was timed better, everyone from Henley would just get on that Didcot train!

The way this @GWRHelp connection at Twyford is timed is infuriating. The Henley train arrives 1 minute before a train towards Reading leaves. This means that people either have to run like maniacs up and down stairs to catch their train which is dangerous or wait for the next.

@philatrail Level boarding still needs ramps. People fall into the trap thinking it’s the golden ticket but curves and height different mean ramps are often still required. It’s a common misconception.

DfT Operator wants innovators to put their minds to improving accessibility for rail passengers, saying that “Traditional ramps between platforms and trains are heavy, slow to deploy, and take up valuable space”. Perhaps DfTO should procure level boarding trains?

Without downplaying the level of fraud and need to update the way we sell tickets, this is bad news for people buying flexible tickets ahead of travel, particularly if you want to reserve a seat. So, what can you do?
National Rail@nationalrailenq

We’re making changes to ticket refunds. From 1 April 2026, some tickets will only be refundable up until 23:59 the day before they’re valid for travel. Take a moment to check what this means for you. Find out more: orlo.uk/FdRpF #refundschange

@GarethDennis @AndyRoden1 Ignore the fraud… wow. Just wow. It is massive. And the number of genuine people affected by this will be small and it’s been blown out of all proportion.

@AndyRoden1 answer: ignore the fraud. it's extremely unlikely to be a large number and it's impossible to calculate the loss of earnings from putting people off rail travel with complicated junk like this

@BrokenBritain_7 @ChimeWhistle Why would you want a refund if you’ve travelled on the journey that you bought the ticket for 🤷‍♂️

Only one more day to go before the RDG publicly announces (via operators and third party retailers) changes to conditions regarding ticket refunds. Chime Whistle Publishing announced the changes a month ago, giving passengers the heads up of what they can expect from 1 April.

I created thousands of photographs (many of staff) from the first through to the final Wrexham & Shropshire Railway train, including this one of 67012 being named. Next week Wrexham,Shropshire & Midlands Railway will run a Wrexham to London Euston special. flic.kr/p/2rYrvru

I find it irritating that fire safety standards mean that seats on all new trains are extremely uncomfortable with no padding. I would rather take the, I assume, small risk of being roasted to a crisp than have to sit on ironing board seats

The DfT is now currently in dispute with Chiltern, Northern and Greater Anglia but nevermind, the trains will have a stunning GBR livery within a few years, which I'm sure will resolve everything!

@japritchard @ChimeWhistle Because this is all stirring and mostly tosh. Then seats actually get narrower where the ears are and the TOC will have specified the width of the trolley anyway. Don’t let a good story get in the way of facts…

@ChimeWhistle Which leads to a couple more questions. Firstly, if the trolley design is a factor, why hasn't that been raised as a solution (the focus has apparently just been on the train's fixtures) and secondly, what's the prevalence of H&S issues with handles to date?

Spare a thought for the catering crews, trying to get through without breaking their knuckles or having to deal with a rolling trolley!

Regarding the refurbished Voyagers and the new seats, someone has DM me to say that the seat 'ears' are at the head height of a small child - making it likely they could bump their head!

@ChimeWhistle Times have moved on. Many trains DO run without additional staff and they break down and they get successfully evacuated. People get quickly sent to site to assist…

A train failed on the Midland Main Line today - passengers stranded for four hours and had to be evacuated onto another train. Imagine that scenario on a train without staff.
Wailway@BrokenBritain_7

@ChimeWhistle The is no incentive to remove drivers or even manual crossing keepers thanks to no compulsory redundancy agreements. Metros already run all over Europe without drivers. Pay for the enhancements and carry on paying the workers for years afterwards. Victory to the luddites!
