GitHub's VP of Developer Policy @mlinksva participated in the @mitsmr/@bcg Responsible AI. His take: "Responsible AI should help leaders focus less on documenting impact and more on building institutions that can absorb and amplify these gains." mitsmr.com/4sFkJcP

I cannot even remotely keep up with state tech legislation, but someone told me this California bill requiring provenance watermarking standards is likely to pass? That seems potentially relevant for DMCA stuff. Both 1202 CMI and 512 TPMs. legiscan.com/CA/text/AB3211…

@Scott_Wiener The lapel pin is widely used in Israel to represent support for the hostages held in Gaza and the campaign referred to as “Bring Them Home”. A common hostage-awareness / solidarity ribbon worn by many Israeli officials and civilians. @CommunityNotes

As the Israeli government prepares to upgrade & expand illegal West Bank settlements — an immoral policy designed to dismember Palestinian communities — Ben Gvir, who was convicted of promoting terrorism & has been elevated by Netanyahu, is sporting a noose lapel pin. Truly vile

LF also has a good post explaining what this is and what's at stake for open collaboration. Have your say indeed (idly curious if "have your say" is subtle implication this is an EU-style self-own, it's the name of the commission's feedback portal) x.com/linuxfoundatio…

🛡️ Open Source is under threat: The @USPTO is proposing rule changes that could limit the community’s ability to defend against non-practicing entities. The Linux Foundation is responding, and we urge others to submit comments before 12/2/25. Read the full blog to learn more. @EFF @github #OpenSource #TechPolicy (Link: hubs.la/Q03V-_Kv0)

@realtimeai Not obscure and ~5 of my hobby horses (see replies) but yes, absolutely. Meta hobby horse is to have higher ambition than muddling through and instead take opportunity for structural reform that improves rather than further degrades political incentives and culture.

You're the president in 2029. The political leadership of Chicago and Illinois are holding an emergency press conference. They're broke. No more money for cops, teachers, trash collectors. The question, from @ProfSchleich: Do you bail them out? statecraft.pub/p/should-the-f…

@rSanti97 @ProfSchleich Round it out with temporary citywide congestion charge. Efficient, hard to avoid, pairs well with LVT + right-to-build + free-migration zone. Speeds bailout payback with minimal distortion, makes the bail-in package even more of a growth-first, moral-hazard-minimizing deal.

@rSanti97 @ProfSchleich Add one more layer: temporary charter-city lite free-migration zone as a bail-in condition. Right-to-work + right-to-live boosts labor supply, demand, and land values, expanding LVT base and speeding repayment. Another strong deterrent: zero out NIMBY building and people control.

@RuxandraTeslo This brainrot (or sympathetic term) extreme niche even in SF, <1% pop, still 10-100x more common than outside of SF. All definitely should not build, amounts to survival entrepreneurship, small is unproductive. "All" = those w/moonshot capacity JFDI…useful part of SF culture?

I love SF but it has this brainrot that everyone has to BUILD, even if they're mediocre at it. The most satisfied ppl are those doing what they're exceptional as. Adhering to a general professional identity that's "respected" is a consolation prize for the mediocre.

@Save_SF_2024 Thanks for this crossover post. Made me check out your other posts, which are what I'd expect given username. SF (as home to innovators) is indeed also particularly negatively impacted by rents extracted from innovators. Save SF indeed!

In November 2021, a zero-day flaw in a widely used software library called Log4j allowed hackers to take full control of compromised devices through a simple application interface. This event crossed into mainstream headlines and became known as Log4Shell. Governments and companies spent billions to patch the vulnerability, upgrade IT systems, and contain the damage. Developers in Europe are central to maintaining the critical systems we all rely on, managing current security risks and addressing new challenges emerging in the age of AI. That’s why @github is committed to securing the digital supply chain by strengthening the open source projects that underpin the internet and the AI stack. Through Microsoft’s new EU Security Program Commitments, we’re investing in open source security with the GitHub Secure Open Source Fund—supporting the projects that keep the internet and AI running.
