@Spraoi @sarobertson_ It should be. But they have no appetite for that either, so we will freeze, starve and eventually burn down our forests to survive.

@sarobertson_ Nuclear powered electricity is the future. We will always need O&G but all the research, science, physics, development and implementation will be nuclear. O&G will become the horse and buggy of the 21st century as energy companies pivot en masse. Buy copper.

@twitandrewking Actually that looks pretty slick. I guess ‘Snowbirds’ may be triggering for folk who don’t like snow or birds, so they might need a new name.

SNOWBIRD REPLACEMENT? There’s chatter about a decision on Canada’s beloved Snowbirds Aerobatic Team. The current Tutor Jets they use were designed and produced by Canadian aircraft manufacturer Canadair, built 1963-66. It served as the standard jet trainer of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), and later Canadian Armed Forces, between 1963-2000. Replacement parts/upkeep is getting difficult so what could replace it? Well, some quick research reveals this: The Italian Leonardo Aermacchi M-345 Actually branded as the “Tutor II”it is the closest modern match in class and performance. It is a single-engine basic/advanced jet trainer (Williams FJ44 turbofan) explicitly positioned as a successor to the CT-114 for Canadian use—including as a Snowbirds platform. It offers similar or better speed (~425 KTAS / ~489 mph at altitude), excellent maneuverability, low operating costs, and a “true jet experience” with superior teaching effectiveness compared to turboprops. It is smaller/lighter than some advanced trainers, highly aerobatic (its predecessor MB-339 equips Italy’s Frecce Tricolori team), and has been actively marketed to Canada for the Future Aircrew Training (FAcT) program and Snowbirds replacement. Dimensions and handling align well with the Tutor’s precision aerobatics needs. Rosso Bianco! I used Grok to paint it up!

On what date was a jet aircraft first flown in South Africa, and what particular jet aircraft has been in South Africa the longest. The first jet aircraft to take to the skies in South Africa was at Brooklyn (now called Ysterplaat) 70 years ago. Brooklyn changed name to Ysterplaat in 1949. The first jet to fly in South Africa was a De Havilland Meteor Mk.III which lifted off on 14 May, 1946 from Brooklyn after being assembled there after shipment from the UK. It was in South Africa for evaluation for service in the SAAF, the SAAF though bought the De Havilland Vampire. The oldest resident jet aircraft landed in South Africa from the UK on 17 March, 1947, and now rests quietly in Saxonwold Museum, it has never graced the skies of South Africa though. She is also the only one of her variant type of the Me-262 left in the world, this being a Night Fighter. The tell is the number of Flare chutes sets on her port side. The photo is of her still in Europe.

If @C__Herridge were a standard Canadian liberal journalist working in D.C. all these years she would be held up as a national treasure here at home. She does good work.

I had the opportunity to ask @SecRubio the first question from the White House’s new media seat at his first official press briefing filling in for @KarolineLeavitt. Thank you @WhiteHouse for supporting independent journalists. HERRIDGE: Secretary Rubio, have you seen any recent indications that Iran is willing to give up its nuclear weapons program that is credible, verifiable, and that would lead to an immediate de-escalation?

@GordonGChang Accusations of “communism” often come from conservative opponents, framing progressive engagement policies as socialist threats. These are common in polarized Korean politics but lack substantiation as ideological alignment with communism.

South Korea is ruled by a group that looks communist, or at least is North Korean in its loyalties. Think tankers in Washington need to move beyond generalities—see below—and begin thinking how we rescue the alliance at this grave moment.

I think the only way this ends is if we get a lawyer to draft up terms ceding someone's property to the nearest First Nation. Doesn't even need to be immediate; it can be willed. And then, everybody who ever uses the term "unceded" in public is handed one and asked why they insist on occupying stolen land.
Tony Ollenberger@TonyOllenberger

@TristinHopper Funny, I'm at a ceremony right now that began with a land acknowledgement. I immediately texted my best friend who's a status Metís and told him someone wants to sign their home over to him.

Perm was attacked today, about 1500-1800km from Ukraine. It is ridiculous to believe that these attacks on Russia are done solely by Ukraine. We are led by lunatics who will surely scream "unprovoked" when a powerful retaliation comes.
