I subscribe to the "broken lightbulbs" theory with manufacturing.
In my previous career I was in & out of hundreds of CNC shops, stamping plants, injection molders, electronics assembly, heat treaters, electroplaters... basically everything.
When I walked in and was presented with a brightly lit shop it was an immediate sign I was inside a place that cared about their work, and a place that would listen to what I had to say.
There were definitely a few outliers - some real dungeons making really impressive parts.
But those were rare.
When I installed the lighting in our facility we used 75 foot candles as the target. OSHA requires between 10-30 as the "minimum. Some high detail manufacturing and visual QC can require 100-200 FC.
A lot of manufacturing is just standing on ladders, changing lightbulbs, adding electrical outlets, and moving pallet racks.
