It is shocking how little coverage there is of an unfolding humanitarian catastrophe in Ukraine due to Russia's destruction of its energy grid. It's -20C outside and half of the country experienced a total blackout today. Metro trains stopped operating in Kyiv and Kharkiv today. Rolling blackouts have been ongoing for weeks, often with no heating and running water inside people's houses. People get sick and die because of this. In the meantime, Russians laugh and call for more strikes to punish Ukraine for its unwillingness to surrender. These are strikes affecting millions of civilians amid the harshest winter in decades. These are crimes against humanity that Russia is confident it will get away with. We cannot let that happen

Do not let anyone tell you that you shouldn't record law enforcement (so long as you're not physically impeding them). Citizen video has decisively rebutted the administration's lies. The evidence of our eyes contradicts the dishonesty of the administration's words.

"The freedom of individuals verbally to oppose or challenge police action without thereby risking arrest is one of the principal characteristics by which we distinguish a free nation from a police state." City of Houston v. Hill, 482 U.S. 451, 462–63 (1987).

Q: "Do you believe that deadly force was necessary?" Trump: "It was highly disrespectful of law enforcement. The woman and her friend were highly disrespectful of law enforcement…Law enforcement should not be in a position where they have to put up with this stuff."

As a three time combat veteran, I get pissed when a five-time draft dodger like Trump bangs the war drums from Mar-A-Lago. When politicians talk tough, it’s not their kids who get sent to war. It’s working class kids who have to fight.

An 18-year-old from occupied Crimea was about to be drafted into the Russian army. Instead, he escaped more than 3,000 kilometers and reached Kyiv. This is the story of Artem, who chose flight over serving the state that occupied his home. — Suspilne 1/

Under the laws of war, you never attack anyone who is hors de combat: shipwrecked, wounded, defenseless, or already in your power. Those two men clinging to the wreckage were exactly that. Ordering their death anyway crosses an even brighter line: the ban on no quarter - the absolute rule that you do not kill people who cannot fight back. Every commander knows this. Every officer is trained on it. These aren’t obscure legal theories. They’re the bedrock of lawful command. Yet the Secretary of Defense still gave the order: “kill everybody” - after the first strike, after operators saw survivors in the water, after it was clear they posed no threat. A second missile was launched just to finish the job. Hegseth didn’t make a tough call. He made an unlawful one.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is declining to comment on a report that he ordered the military to kill all passengers aboard a boat suspected of ferrying drugs in the Caribbean Sea in September. Read more: abcnews.link/WPS06F9

Strange thing about mountains… folks think they’re the one part of the world that never moves. But if you live long enough, you learn even the giants are shrinking. Rainier losing twenty feet isn’t the kind of headline that gets people arguing in the diner, but it probably should. Because mountains don’t vote, protest, or file lawsuits they just melt, inch by inch, while the rest of us debate hyperlinks. And meanwhile the rivers that feed towns, the salmon runs that fed tribes, and the turbines that keep lights on in the Northwest all depend on the cold memory stored in that ice. People can argue over causes till they’re blue in the face. But you can’t debate a tape measure, and you can’t negotiate with a glacier that’s already halfway down the mountain. Just one of those reminders that the world keeps changing, whether we acknowledge it or not.

Correction: The United States wants Russia’s answer on an unconditional withdrawal of Ukraine by Thursday. This Russian-drafted propaganda must be rejected and disregarded for the unserious nonsense that it is. This moment requires Peace Through Strength, not appeasement. Today, we have officially notified both the Clerk of the House and House leadership of our discharge petition to force a vote on crushing Russian sanctions immediately upon our return. #PeaceThroughStrength

A truly bizarre series of events. Senators from both parties said in Halifax that Rubio told them via phone today that the Ukraine peace plan is actually a Russian document, not a U.S. proposal. State Department spox says that’s not true, it’s a U.S.-authored proposal. ???
Tommy Pigott@StateDeputySpox

This is blatantly false. As Secretary Rubio and the entire Administration has consistently maintained, this plan was authored by the United States, with input from both the Russians and Ukrainians.
