The history of Western imperialism is bookended by genocides: the genocide perpetrated by Columbus against the Taino people after he landed in Ayiti in 1492, and the current US-Israeli genocide against the people of Palestine. 500+ years of barbarism and it must be stopped.

Today, President Trump will issue a series of Executive Orders that deny the climate emergency facing our country in favor of a phony “energy emergency”. These performative acts show the pervasive influence that the fossil fuel industry will have in the United States over the next four years. But make no mistake, the global Sustainability Revolution is unstoppable. As was the case in 2017, withdrawing the US from the Paris Agreement is a shortsighted abdication of leadership that will only serve to put our nation at a disadvantage. Clinging to the industries of the past instead of embracing the industries of the future may boost the short-term profits of fossil fuel companies, but it will come at the expense of the broader American economy - including American workers who risk being left behind. This is the first of what will be many attempts to ignore reality and try to stall the world’s unstoppable and irreversible move to a clean energy economy. But these proclamations are not reflective of our political and economic reality. These efforts to roll back progress – particularly the hugely popular clean energy investments in the Inflation Reduction Act – will be met with opposition from both political parties. That’s why, in the coming weeks, months, and years, climate leaders and activists must not be deterred or distracted. From extreme weather disasters like Hurricane Helene and the still burning Los Angeles wildfires, to the growing number of climate refugees, to competitiveness in the global economy, the climate crisis will have profound consequences for the United States over the next four years. If the new Administration won’t lead on this issue, it is up to all of us. Now is the time for Governors, Mayors, business leaders, investors, and activists to put their heads down and do the work that will advance the climate solutions our nation and the world so urgently need. We were able to keep up the pace of climate action during the first Trump Administration, and it is urgent that we take up the mantle once again.

Reaction to President Trump’s Withdrawal from the Paris Agreement "The decision by President Trump to withdraw the United States from the Paris Agreement will cause major derailment for global climate action. "By reneging on international commitments, the United States—the world’s largest historical carbon emitter and top fossil fuel producer - is abandoning its moral responsibility to support those who suffer through no fault of their own. "This represents a profound moral and ethical failure, as well as a dire threat to global cooperation and multilateralism." — Harjeet Singh, Climate Activist and Founding Director of Satat Sampada Climate Foundation @SatatSampada #ClimateCrisis #ClimateEmergency #ClimateJustice

For those wondering wth happened #COP29: developing countries collectively sought $1.3 trillion, incl $600 billion in public grants. Final text word salad says "at least $300 billion", "private", "alternative sources" etc. Developing countries objected unfccc.int/sites/default/…

The Global North’s denial of real responsibility, and denial of doing its fair share, is not only failing the Global South - it is failing all of humanity and life on Earth. #COP29

The closing plenary of COP29 is still ongoing just past 3:30am now in Baku. Some Parties are objecting the adoption which is being noted. The fight will continue. Though this is so extremely sad.

The finance text is a let-down. It is not transparent enough. It does not represent providing equitable and fair amounts of public, not private debt-inducing climate finance for the people struggling with the severe impacts of climate change disproportionately and rapidly.

On the NCQG text LDCs and AOSIS have walked out💪We NEED a finance figure thats at least 1 tril - 250 or 300 billion isn’t close to cutting it. No deal (meaning still open to negotiatiating a different agreement) is better than locking in a bad deal.#COP29 #PayUpForClimateFinance

The least developed countries and island states - the moral voices of climate justice - have walked out of the talks as they refuse to be associated with a text that will undermine climate action for the next decade #NoDealIsBetterThanABadDeal

Media frenzy over the latest draft text on the #NCQG climate finance goal. @Rebecca_Thissen @CANIntl: "This text is too low, too long and not adequate. We don't have a guarantee that the money will flow through grants, which means more debt for developing countries..."

1/21.📢Today at #COP29 at 19:00, we will see Parties (countries) consider, and hopefully provide further guidance, on the first report of the Board of the Fund for Responding to #LossAndDamage (FRLD). Here is what we expect the decision adopting the report to offer guidance on!👇

My comment as the COP29 reaches its midpoint. "As we reach the midpoint of COP29, it is deeply disturbing to witness the climate finance negotiations come to a standstill. Developed nations continue to display a disturbing level of apathy, viewing vital climate finance as mere investments rather than the lifeline that developing countries urgently need. “Their reluctance to commit to the scale of the new climate finance goal and ensure it is provided in the form of grants rather than loans and investments not only undermines the success of this conference but also casts a shadow over the integrity of these wealthy nations. Their chronic failures underscore a preference for promoting their economic interests at the expense of providing real support to those enduring the most severe effects of climate change. “As developing nations strive to implement critical climate actions, they are unfairly coerced into committing to the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy without the necessary financial and technological support, even as developed countries ramp up their own fossil fuel extraction. This situation is not merely unfair but starkly unjust, compelling vulnerable nations to confront monumental climate challenges alone, while their populations remain without basic energy access. “It’s time for developed countries to step up, fulfill their obligations, and make a genuine commitment to meeting the climate action needs of developing nations. We cannot afford to let this COP fail—there's far too much at stake.” #PayUp #ClimateFinanceNow #COP29 #ClimateJustice
