In Ballari, one of Karnataka’s hottest districts, chopping 233 mature trees for road widening will only worsen the urban heat island effect. Compensatory afforestation cannot replace 50-year-old cooling systems. PWD must explore alternatives instead of making felling the default.

@rishpardikar Fair enough but monsoon almost touches North by the end of June. All india averaged rainfall graphs have a clear rise from June to September. Infact, extending the season beyond September is often discussed more than including May

Not sure why we consider Kerala as the marker for onset of SW monsoons in the country. The season actually begins in the Andaman and Nicobar islands

@SrihariS99 Yes, true. Although May is not peak summer for the whole of India. South often sees a peak in April. And as someone whose birthday is end of May, I have observed many many years of rainfall on my birthday

@MachaiahKA For the country as a whole, the SW monsoon season begins in the islands. For the mainland, the marker is Kerala

@rishpardikar I'm from Coorg. For now, monsoon normally starts in the first week of June and the mark is, has it hit the south Kerala coast and is it moving upwards?

There are issues like humidity and high nighttime temperatures making summers feel worse. And, as I mentioned earlier, weather becoming less predictable in general. But simply focussing on high temperature numbers without larger context is not very useful

Heatwaves have become a feature of summers in some regions. However, they are not the only story, neither the main one. It is important to understand trends like the one explained here because it points to issues like weather becoming less predictable downtoearth.org.in/amp/story/clim…

Why India’s summer isn’t as hot as expected? India was expected to face an intense heatwave summer in 2026. Instead, many regions are seeing cooler temperatures, thunderstorms, hailstorms, and excess rainfall. What caused this dramatic shift? In this video, Down To Earth's @bluewrit explains the multiple weather systems shaping India’s unusual summer: from western disturbances and cyclonic circulations to the possible influence of El Niño and the approaching monsoon. @AishwaryaSudhir Yes, it works. Sometimes I get full info and sometimes partial. This was the last report based on RTI - article-14.com/post/how-scien… And I am currently working on an air pollution story based on RTI docs. In between these two reports, there were instances where I got info and didn't

@rishpardikar I thought RTI filling has become redundant, are people still getting info, even if it means partial info?

Had filed RTI for list of employees & those hired on contract with Andaman Adim Janjati Vikas Samiti (AAJVS). Info denied stating "relates to 3rd party & is treated as confidential". Filed 1st appeal. Got notice for in-person appearance when they know I am not based in Port Blair

The only way the NYT can ‘report’ on the well documented and systemic rape of Palestinians is to put it in the Opinion section. The same section they regularly use to manufacture consent for genocide. Kristof’s piece is a self serving gimmick to perform ‘balance’ by this rag.

I have followed #GreatNicobar mega project story for about 5 years. There are many issues of concern but a major less-discussed issue is how @Andaman_Admin bureaucrats run the islands like their own fiefdom. Even locals say "koi puchne wala nahi hai na" because Union Territory
