Is cannabis really safer than alcohol? 🤔 It’s a question we hear everywhere—and the answer isn’t as simple as many headlines suggest. In this powerful new article, Every Brain Matters challenges the common belief that cannabis is the “safer” choice. While alcohol is linked to well-known harms like disease, addiction, and thousands of deaths each year, cannabis carries its own serious risks—many of which are often overlooked or misunderstood. From mental health impacts like psychosis to increased risks of heart attack and stroke, the article highlights how today’s high-potency THC products can affect the brain and body in ways that differ—but are not necessarily safer—than alcohol. Perhaps most importantly, it challenges the comparison itself. These are two very different substances with different risks, and framing one as “safe” can create a false sense of security—especially for young people and developing brains. 💡 The takeaway? This isn’t about choosing sides—it’s about understanding the full picture. 👉 Read the full article to explore the science, myths, and what families need to know: everybrainmatters.org/2026/04/01/is-… #EveryBrainMatters #CannabisAwareness #PublicHealth #Prevention #KnowTheFacts

New study in JAMA Health Forum (463,396 adolescents followed to age 26): Teen cannabis use was linked to a significantly higher risk of psychotic, bipolar, depressive & anxiety disorders — even after accounting for prior mental health and other substance use. Cannabis use preceded diagnoses by 1.7–2.3 years. Read the study: jamanetwork.com/journals/jama-… #EveryBrainMatters #cannabis #MentalHealthMatters

The “a lot” of people who want to see it are the industry profiteers, not the “we, the people”. If @realDonaldTrump classifies marijuana, he is picking “we, the drug corporations” who are out of control, infiltrated with Chinese cartels, and are fueling the addiction, violence, and homeless crisis. @realDonaldTrump Don’t reschedule marijuana and normalize Big Weed. Rescheduling will enrich foreign cartels and hurt families across the country. Help us stay healthy and safe, Mr. President!

Rescheduling Cannabis-Medicine or Politics? - PubMed For public health and safety reasons, keep marijuana in Schedule I. Rescheduling marijuana to III implies it is an approved medicine-it is not! No other medicine was approved via the ballot box… pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40498499/

**Pass SB5! Get THC Out of Texas!** @GregAbbott_TX The public is not well-informed about the facts surrounding THC (marijuana). Therefore, I urge you not to legalize THC based solely on popular opinion. I implore you to follow the science. THC is the primary environmental factor linked to the diagnosis of schizophrenia in men aged 21-29. nida.nih.gov/news-events/ne… 🧠 47% of people who experience cannabis-induced psychosis (CIP) will develop chronic psychiatric disorders, such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder with psychosis. This rate is higher than that of meth users. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29179576/ 👉 Please connect the dots. The homeless men you see struggling with psychosis on the streets of Austin are trapped in a state of despair—chemical slavery, with no freedom for them. THC, regardless of its concentration, accumulates in the body, particularly in our brains, because it is lipophilic (fat-soluble). This is in contrast to alcohol, which is water-soluble. A of alcohol will not induce psychosis like a hit of THC can. Let’s not gamble with the mental health of Texans. #txlege #SB5 #MentalHealthMatters

Doctors agree, THC is dangerous for children and adults! Watch their testimony and see for yourself. Senate Bill 5 is a total ban on THC. Of course, CBD and CBG products will still be legal and available. #txlege

💔 My heart goes out to everyone affected by the Texas floods. May God be with you. 🙏 I am determined not to give up . We must correct the 2019 Texas hemp bill (HB 1325) and stop the assault of THC in Texas neighborhoods. 🫶🏽 We are proud of the overwhelming support for SB3 in both the House and Senate. We are commend @LtGovTX, @electcharles , and all the elected officials who truly understand the dangers of THC. We remain hopeful that @GregAbbott_TX will recognize the costs of THC and listen to the families who have been impacted. He is doing a excellent job supporting families affected by the floods and we look forward to his attention to our families at the appropriate time.
