BYD just unveiled an electric car that can charge from 10 to 70 percent in five minutes, and all the way in nine More proof that EVs are going to dominate the future, just a question of how long it takes — and who will build them Via @WIRED wired.com/story/how-byds…

Joe’s a good reporter, and the story was well written, but his paraphrase here isn’t what I said. I didn’t compare the cost of permanent housing to treatment centers, and I wasn’t making a financial argument, I was making a moral one. A quick 🧵to explain:

@kimmaicutler ... same story in reverse when they overspend during the boom years. Would be amazing to get this rerouted into something resembling the Norwegian Sovereign Wealth fund.

California also has a revenue problem in that it is so dependent on highly volatile PIT and cap gains revenues that it can’t really predictably fund services. Everyone who points out the deficit every other year when there aren’t IPOs almost never provides this context.

Because cars rule and they can be used as communal spaces. I learned to ride a bike in a parking lot. I taught my kids how to ride bikes and skateboards in a parking lot. It’s where I learned how to drive. It’s where you can hold farmer’s markets and other events. Also ‘it’s great to let people drive from faraway to support local businesses

@Mike_from_PA Centrist Dems only care about elections. They have no interest in governance. That’s why they can only win when Republicans become insanely unpopular. Then the Dems get in and do nothing and people hate them and elect republicans again.

This is why centrist Democrats need to be silenced. Let’s leave aside that Medicare for all has majority support and has for a decade. It’s also the best policy. Estimates say it would save 68,000 lives and $450 billion annually. Why aren’t you screaming that from the rooftops?
Adam Jentleson@AJentleson

If you believe in left-wing ideas, the trick is to understand that many of them are deeply unpopular and figure out how to make progress on them anyway, like the right does on tax cuts for the rich.

@KimChiSpicey @Chucklesbybay @puristdriver SFUSD's budget is primarily funded through California's Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) ($648M+ projected for 25-26), alongside state, federal, and local sources. Major funding comes from state income/property taxes (Prop 98)

@WallStreetApes Guess that's why CA is hemorrhaging money. Multi billion dollar businesses have left, refineries closing, exorbitant gas prices, egregious taxes, thousands that just left. They would have to resort to less than savory practices.

Mayor Daniel Lurie on Sunday made a last-ditch effort to stop the planned San Francisco educators strike tomorrow. He asked both sides to come to an agreement today. Barring that, he pleaded for a 3-days' delay to the strike. He was rebuffed. missionlocal.org/2026/02/sf-may…

@ZavalaA I'm not sure what the funny part was, & I'm a pretty joyful person. Like I wrote in the other post, 'taxing by the mile' is already in CA. "gas mileage tax" is a red herring while their exploratory committee is plausible deniability. Hopefully you get a bigger laugh outta that.

Some people insist San Francisco “voted” on the permanent closure of the Great Highway. What they’re ignoring is Joel Engardio and Lucas Lux’s use of manufactured consent. The decision was made behind closed doors since day 1, then dressed up with a fake or tightly controlled process, a citywide election, so people would feel involved. 👉 Voting that doesn’t affect the outcome. 👉 “Community input” after the plan is already locked. 👉 Renaming contests with a preselected winner. Joel Engardio and Lucas Lux were betting that people would resist less if they believed they had chosen it themselves, “If I participated, I must agree, at least a little.” D4 and the Westside saw through their manipulations.

@KurtSchlichter It continued when Democrat leaders encouraged a bunch of imbeciles to "get in the faces" of armed law enforcement trying to conduct very dangerous operations against hardened criminals.

The event started when Democrats like 20 million illegal aliens into the country.
Sharky Laguana@Sharkyl

@willchamberlain The event started with shoving the woman to the ground. The same agent maced, tackled to the ground, and shot Pretti. The 4th amendment requires the use of force to be both reasonable and proportionate in the totality of circumstances. How was this either?

The police officer has the right to order the woman to clear the road - and if the woman refuses, to use non-lethal force to gain her compliance/detain her for violating 18 USC 111. When Pretti stepped in between the two and physically confronted the officer, he committed a felony violation of 18 USC 111, that justified his own detention. When he resisted arrest, that was yet another crime that also justified the mace and the tackling. And, tragically, having brought a gun to his planned physical confrontation with federal law enforcement, he created a circumstance with his conduct where it is likely that the shooting officer reasonably feared for his safety and the safety of others, given the information available to him at the time.

You are right. The only thing that matters, legally, for when he was shot is what a reasonable officer in the shoes of the officer shooting would have done. But then a slew of use-of-force experts - Branca, Shipley et al. - have explained why the shot was likely lawful based on that strict view of the information the officers had at the moment, in all the chaos. It’s the left that’s been demanding to open the aperture. Well, now it’s wide open, we all understand exactly what Pretti was doing, and it makes him look much, much worse.
Jesse Singal@jessesingal

Assuming this video is accurate (OP attributes it to the BBC, which is not who reported it, and the YouTube channel that did report it cited BBC facial recognition technology), how does this have any bearing on what actually happened when he was shot? Seriously?
