I wrote a guide to the tools I use for building software. I always love reading these when others publish them. I included my favorites from across the stack, and a lot of links to people and projects that I wish I'd found earlier. So much has improved in the last year, particularly with Python tooling. I hope there's a spark in there for you, no matter what you're building.

Just for fun I made a benchmark of the models trading oil. I ran 9 frontier LLMs trading from 1/1 => 3/14 Oil was up 72% so none of the model beat buy-and-hold. Best: Gemini 3-flash ($15,880) Worst: Minimax ($14,619) Most consistent predictor: Claude Opus, but ranked 8th on P&L. Accuracy nor consistency ≠ trading performance . I wanted to be a lawyer growing up. Building beautiful logical systems out of a few words in the Constitution seemed like such a cool job. I scratch that itch now by reading Supreme Court decisions and listening to the oral arguments. It’s surprisingly easy to follow along with the logic and form an independent opinion once you understand a few basics.
