@Clyde69420 @razibkhan But Razib said he thought maybe “modern humans” emerged in NE Africa. The Khoisan are, obviously, modern humans.

about one out of every fifteen times I tell the baby "no," he actually leaves the thing alone and crawls away but he makes sure that I know he's not happy about it he's just like his mom 🥲

As it stands, SSA is very prompt at payments, and very good at detecting fraud. Just 0.3% of checks go out in error. I don't really get why we have to spend millions ripping out and replacing a system that works, even a very old one. Seems like the only reason is "Elon wants to."

I've never actually heard any substantial argument for why we *have* to rewrite Social Security's database systems. Like, yeah, I'm a software engineer myself, I get COBOL is basically what Stegosaurus programmed in. But what specifically is the benefit to using a newer system?
WIRED@WIRED

Social Security systems contain tens of millions of lines of code written in COBOL, an archaic programming language. Safely rewriting that code would take years—DOGE wants it done in months. wired.com/story/doge-reb…

@MattZeitlin They already make and sell e-buses, including school buses, in California. It shouldn't be that difficult to get cars going, but Elon might lobby against it

We need to allow BYD to sell and manufacturing cars in America but condition it on BYD setting up a joint venture with an American automaker and technology transfer
Jonathan Cheng@JChengWSJ

FT, citing sources: Beijing is delaying approval for carmaker BYD to build a plant in Mexico amid concerns that the smart car technology developed by China’s biggest electric-vehicle maker could leak across the border to the US. ft.com/content/36ae6f…

@ArmandDoma Why is that surprising? blacks supported gay marriage at the same rate as republicans. They aren't woke except when it comes to pro-black stuff.

@bendreyfuss It’s on chain, so not only can you legally give Donald Trump bags of cash, you can credibly point to a leger that records that bribe

What’s the theory of the case for the Trump memecoins being a vehicle of public corruption (and not just further evidence that Trump is a low rent scam artist)? People are going to buy his stupid coins and then say “I bought your coins, now approve my government contracts”?

Reading the responses, I'm realizing that a ton of people very confidently believe that c-sections happen when a woman is anatomically flawed in some way that prevents a vaginal birth And that's... basically never the case? C-section is definitely not a narrow hips thing

@razibkhan @FrancoisOuell15 Apparently 40% of Greenland's budget is Danish subsidies. I can't imagine the US paying that out that sort of money merely to maintain a European style welfare state.

@eyeslasho @keatingsdaddy There just aren't enough albanians in the world for them to be huge. They would basically have to be the jews of crime and welfare dependency to even register.

@yishan @cremieuxrecueil at least in ny where i live, you can buy most ingredients prep-prepped. chopped up onions and garlic are ubiquitous. It’s just the raw bacon that would need prep - and even that you /can/ buy chopped up, only it’s also pre-cooked
