Hermit crabs don't make their own shells. They spend their entire lives moving into bigger ones as they grow.
Every shell you take off the beach is one less home available for a crab that needs it.
The shortage is so bad that hermit crabs worldwide are now moving into bottle caps, broken lightbulbs, and plastic debris. They climb in and can't climb back out. They die in them.
A shell is not a souvenir, it's a house.

I am 60 years old and have lived virtually my entire life in the American South. I have never to my knowledge met a single member of the Ku Klux Klan. It is a ghost kept alive by millions of dollars in funding by the Southern Poverty Law Center to keep us divided.
