These are tough election results for Labour and I’m sorry to all of those colleagues who have lost their seats. Keir Starmer won a mandate to change our country. We must get on with delivering that mandate - and show how politics can improve people’s lives for the better.

To reiterate - 74% of voters yesterday did NOT put their tick by a Reform candidate. There is hope yet.

Reform UK were rejected by more than 70% of voters yesterday, and the media is treating the result as terminal for Labour while almost entirely ignoring the fact that most people said no to the hatred, the division and the bigotry. That is the actual story.

I live nextdoor to a pair of Reform voters. They are a pair of the unhappiest, most unpopular and least successful people I have ever met. I'm not sure how thay expect Reform to improve their lives.

Less than half of the UK identify as Christian. 37% identify as atheists. Let's not pretend the UK is a Christian country. We are a mutli-faith society, and a largely secular society. The UK is a country that has many traditions, and welcomes new ones.
