@WorkElizab @FathomEnt Click on that fathoment link and you’ll see, for example, now bw but Silence of the Lambs is playing Nationwide next week, Ben Hur two weeks ago, even things like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II (the Vanilla Ice original). I wish I were you hearing about this for the first time!

@WorkElizab That’s not hard. Google @FathomEnt or your local college’s theater or your town’s older theater-turned-community-theater. Honestly these things play all the time in YOUR town—I’ve seen all of the above on 60 foot screens and many more.

@ZelphBones @jmbrim3 Well that is very explicitly 1) out of context, 2) not how new doctrine is announced, and 3) contradicted by actual and more recent quotes in general conference, like Uchtdorf’s “through the help of prayer and unspecified quantities of a diet soda that shall remain nameless.”

@RepRobertGarcia @RepNancyMace Real question: isn’t this a clear case of separation of powers? Of McDonalds managers clutching their pearls that a Burger King employee won’t obey them?

Let’s be crystal clear, here’s the language @RepNancyMace read for the bi-partisan subpoena: “Mr. Chairman, I move that the Committee issue a subpoena to the Honorable Pamela Jo Bondi to appear before the Committee...” Bondi needs to come testify, whether she is the AG or not.

Pam Bondi cannot escape accountability simply because she no longer holds the office of Attorney General. Our motion to subpoena Pam Bondi, which was passed by the Oversight Committee, was for Bondi by name, not by title. She will still have to appear before the Oversight Committee for a sworn deposition. The American people deserve answers, and we expect her to appear as soon as a new date is set.

God Makers? Really?? I expect this from anti-Mormon counter cultists, but Pints With Aquinas? Sensationalist framing on LDS racial history is beneath serious engagement, and Pints just fell well below that point.

I Mormons say the Adam god doctrine wasn’t official or that Brigham Young was misunderstood. It was taught for decades and added into the endowment ceremony. The Mormon god was Adam for well over 50 years. Receipts 👇🏻 Mormon Leadership Who Supported the Adam-God Doctrine The Adam-God doctrine (Adam = Michael the Archangel = our Father and God of this earth) was taught from 1852 until ~1904-05. Presidents of the Church •Brigham Young (Pres. 1847–1877): Primary teacher. Introduced publicly April 9, 1852.
“When our father Adam came into the garden of Eden, he came with a celestial body, and brought Eve… He is MICHAEL, the Archangel, the ANCIENT OF DAYS!… He is our FATHER and our GOD, and the only God with whom we have to do.” (JD 1:50) •John Taylor (Pres. 1880–1887): Privately affirmed Adam as an exalted, resurrected being. •Wilford Woodruff (Pres. 1889–1898): Recorded & approved Young’s teachings; helped include it in temple endowment. Called a major 1854 sermon one of the greatest ever. Affirmed privately in 1897. •Lorenzo Snow (Pres. 1898–1901): In 1897: “led out on Adam being our father and God. How beautiful the thought—it brot God nearer to us.” •Joseph F. Smith (Pres. 1901–1918): As apostle in 1873: “the enunciation of that doctrine gave him great joy.” Later clarified it was never formally binding on the Church. First Presidency Counselors •Heber C. Kimball (1st Counselor): Strong supporter.
1862: “The Lord told me that Adam was my father and that he was the God and father of all the inhabitants of this Earth.”
Also taught the God & Father of Jesus Christ was Adam. •George Q. Cannon (Counselor): 1870 School of the Prophets: “fully endorsed the doctrine that Father Adam was our God and Father… it had been revealed to him, so that he knew it was true.” •Daniel H. Wells (2nd Counselor): 1873: Bore “a powerful testimony” to the doctrine, saying “if ever he had received a testimony of any doctrine… he had of the truth of this. The Endowments plainly teach it.” Quorum of the Twelve Apostles At least 11 apostles supported it (Orson Pratt was the main public opponent and was required to apologize in 1860). •Franklin D. Richards: 1854: “The Prophet and Apostle Brigham has declared it [Adam is our Father and God], and that it is the word of the Lord.” Affirmed again in 1897 as inspiring. •Brigham Young Jr.: 1897: Called it “beautiful” and noted it “brot God nearer to us.” Wrote “Adam is our father and God and no use to discuss it with Josephites.” •Orson Hyde: Defended Young in 1860; 1871: “Adam is our God for this Planet (Earth).” •Albert Carrington: Immediately after 1852 sermon: “our God was no more or less than ADAM.” (Wilford Woodruff, Joseph F. Smith, and Heber C. Kimball also supported it as apostles.) First Council of the Seventy •Edward Stevenson: Taught into 1890s. 1880: “Adam is the Father of my Spirit & also of my body.” Helped discipline opponents of the doctrine.
The doctrine appeared in sermons, Millennial Star, and the temple “Lecture at the Veil” under Young, Taylor, Woodruff, and Snow. It was never canonized by common consent. Support varied in emphasis but was widespread among leaders in the 1850s–1890s. Phased out ~1904–05; later disavowed as non-doctrinal. This reflects documented historical records. Many treated it as an advanced teaching or “mystery.”

@Christian_Kafir @kylebeshears You either know that nothing in that video is true and are lying in Jesus‘s name, or you don’t know that nothing in that video is true and are saying it anyways in Jesus‘s name. Either one is serious.

@malachi_wolcott @kylebeshears What did John Knox think of blacks? No matter how much you troll nobody cares what Brigham Young thought. Because we don’t see the president of the church in 1840 as an infallible Greek Oracle. You’re welcome to go harass Catholics if that’s what you’re looking for.

@kylebeshears Thank you for calling out @RealMattFradd on this one. Everyone wants to believe campfire hate speech, but that doesn’t make it any less of bearing false witness. Matt’s honest, he might take it down. This video was the worst of 70s anti-Mormonism and a lot of people fell for it.

@bobda @kylebeshears Come on! I hereby say every word of that video is untrue and straight from the satanic mind of Ed Decker. Good enough for you? There are literally no members of the church that haven’t combatted all the claims in that video. Don’t bear false witness.

@fenshamc Amen. Welcome. Now please don’t allow yourself to be negative but please keep a little list of the churches of everyone who attacks you over the next few months and which ones are sincere vs lying. That will be an eye-opening. Pay attention to how the Spirit responds to each.

This was my first General Conference since I realised 'Mormons' aren't 'a polygamous version of the Amish.' 😂 Late last year I casually wondered, 'What do the Mormons actually believe?' Months later, I'm reading the Book of Mormon daily and felt compelled to watch the General Conference. Here's my biggest takeaway: If the people attacking the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints spent just two hours watching one session, I think their views would shift. How can you sit through that spirit, that sincerity, and still see these people as 'lost' or 'evil'? It's mind-boggling. I'm also really grateful for all the LDS friends on X who, knowingly or not, helped me learn and understand more along the way. Whatever path this takes, whether I eventually join or say, 'Fascinating, I respect it deeply, but I'll stay with my Dutch Reformed church', I'm profoundly grateful. The Lord used simple curiosity to change my relationship with Him, how I see the world, and how I face adversity.

@mattbnelson @LDS_Liberty Just so you know the debate here: what you said was true in the 1600s. It was not true in the 1500s. The KJV was in 1611. So were the translators being conservative and doing it the old way, or progressive and doing it the new way? That’s the discussion.

@LDS_Liberty Wait until you hear that what we perceive as formal was actually the informal when KJV was translated. “Thou” was informal use, addressing a friend or child. “You” was formal for royalty, etc. KJV showed a close, personal relationship with God.

@LDS_Liberty For those who have always wondered, the TH words are singular, and Y words are plural. (Yes, they were in flux when the KJV was translated in 1611, but the KJV was being conservative by using the rules from the 1500s, so don’t worry about declensions or formalities!)

Matthew Watkins@ITalkOfChrist·
The Church is gradually letting go of some of its more "formal" practices in favor of a more accessible, simple, contemporary culture. For example: * Dropping off-putting terms like laurel, beehive, Mia Maid, Mutual, Church discipline, etc * Ditching home teaching in favor of ministering * 2 hour meetings * Approving guitars in sacrament meeting * New contemporary hymns in the hymn book * Approved non-KJV translations of the Bible * Shorter, more basic conference talks and curriculum written for a lower reading level * Modified FSY pamphlet without many rules * Single handbook with many rules cut out * Allowing the continued broadcast of meetings for anyone who wishes to watch online instead of attending in person * Relaxed dress code for missionaries and priests blessing the Sacrament * etc But through all the other revisions, prophets and apostles still feel there is value in speaking to God differently than you speak to your buddy. So the official guidance on the handbook is still to use the traditional language of prayer, including the archaic pronouns for Deity. I know you might think it feels overly formal or stodgy-- especially if you are a recent convert. This is not a core doctrine. And if I were a betting man, I'd wager that the line in the handbook is not going to be there much longer. But getting ahead of the Brethren introduces discord, disunity, and confusion. So please, while that is the current prophetic guidance, I encourage everyone who disagrees with it to please be humble and follow it. We are never spiritually missing out when we follow prophetic counsel.

@Luis_AlonsoS_TR Including as others have said: politics. The church has ALWAYS been to the Center of its members politically. The church has been preaching against partisanship for decades. Nothing you do without the Spirit will work out the way you think it will.

@Luis_AlonsoS_TR As one who is on the frontlines of public-facing missionary work (whatever that means, but as one who has 20M+ views on my church posts), I feel like he’s reminding us that “if ye have not the Spirit, ye shall not teach.” Just because you can win any apologetic bash doesn’t OK it
