@JasonGregor Where were these people with their pitchforks complaining about the weather and no state tax advantage when the Panthers signed Bolland to that big contract in 2014?

NBA tried superteams and it fizzled out over time. Some had success, but many didn't. It will be no different in the NHL. Some will work; most won't. NHL fans and media who keep hammering on no-tax states, don't seem to realize that isn't main reason for winning. Hasn't been in NFL, NBA or MLB. But the same people keeping pound that lame drum in the NHL. FLA sucked for 30 years until they got better management. NSH, SEA aren't juggernauts but reside in tax free state. Tampa Bay hasn't won a round since 2022. Good management trumps taxes all the time. Right now, FLA is managed very well, same with Vegas. Carolina just won the Cup. Drafted well, then made some excellent trades and got a career-best series from a 37-year-old. Tax wasn't much of a factor.

The broadcast is talking up the benefit of Minnesota having two goalies to switch between in the playoffs, but history doesn’t agree. Bobrovsky played every game for Florida in each of the last two Cup runs. Vegas only used 2 goalies due to injury, never decided to switched. Same for Colorado, who only used Francouz when Kuemper was hurt. Before that, Vasilevskiy played every game of back to back Cup runs. In 2019, Binnington played every game for St Louis. To find a team that intentionally switched goalies and won the Cup, you have to go back to Washington in 2018. The Caps played Grubauer for only 1 game, the rode Holtby the rest of the way. Even that wasn’t really a tandem of goalies.

@mrdoft @AdamZHerman I’m talking about the system each team uses. They all play the same man to man d zone coverage. And, all 3 are dump and chase heavy to get on the forecheck. Tkachuk has confirmed as much publicly. Contrast that with the avalanche who are intent on carrying the puck into OZ

A bunch of teams did an awful job trying to imitate the Florida Panthers’ style and meanwhile a major Florida Panthers architect comes out and says that style is overrated.

@Zj_6 @AdamZHerman Agree to disagree on the Leafs. Their adds to replace Mitch didn’t seem like FLA type players to me. The Canes have been close and while Ehlers doesn’t seem like a FLA type to me, Canes adding him was the right move as they needed more scoring. Miller not physical enough for FLA

@mrdoft @AdamZHerman The leafs, unfortunately. Carolina does it well on one end, but not dynamic enough to turn it into enough offense like Florida does off turnovers

@SleeperHQ Regarding slow/untimed drafts, would love if draft selections could show up in the main league chat. Oftentimes, people aren’t aware it’s their turn unless they go into the draft room itself. Draft picks showing up in the main chat would be very helpful in keeping things moving
