To help myself make sense of all the numbers coming at us with #COVID19, I made an interactive customizable data visualizer/animator/analyzer, aggregating regional counts under customizable chains of transformations. Hope you can find it useful too! coronavirus.jle.im

I'll be honest I thought Claude Code was already open source because it's on npm. What is even the purpose of a source code package manager these days

@SandyofCthulhu the problem with cutting Tom is that now there is no justification as to why Merry was able to incapacitate the Witch King at Pelennor. you need someone to give him the Barrow Blade, but there isn't really any other party that slots in cleanly.

Tom Bombadil stops the story cold. We are in an exciting cross-country trip as the hobbits pick their way through a creepy haunted forest to avoid the sinister Black Riders. A terrifying black huorn ensnares them. Poof! Here comes Tom deus-ex-machina Bombadil to save the hobbits from a threat which Tolkien seems to have created to give him an excuse to insert Bombadil. Then, just as the story starts to move again, Tom shows up a SECOND time as a deus-ex-machina to rescue the hobbits from the barrow wight. Ugh. Again stopping the story cold. What is Bombadil's function? He doesn't represent the Old Good Ways which the fellowship must save. Bombadil isn't threatened - he's a cheesy distraction. I'm not saying it's impossible to convince me that Bombadil is a Good Thing, but such a convincing would be an uphill battle, and I view Tom as one of Tolkien's missteps. I am happy Jackson left him out of the film, because it would have stopped the movie's flow too.

had problems with an LLM agent stopping before the objective was done so I made a BS "completion-checker" binary that always just exited with an error code immediately and told it to iterate until the checker passed lol

Using AI for building saves a lot of time. But then you look at how much time and mental energy you spent on learning latest AI tools which will be replaced next month by the next hype thing.

@jiriknesl @jankulveit this is if you are interpreting it as a lookup table, which only depends on the input space any not any internal configuration space

@jankulveit What is "observable universe"? For example, 15B parameter model is 30GB at FP16 precision. You can fit it on a 25 euro/20 pound flash card. Size of GTA V game.

This is sophisticated nonsense. Arguments of the type "something can be replaced by a *very large* lookup table, hence can't be conscious" are generally wrong. We have no reliable intuitions about lookup tables way bigger than observable universe.

1. 🚨 Finally I get to share my new paper: "A Disproof of LLM Consciousness." I show that *no* falsifiable and non-trivial theories of consciousness could ever work for LLMs. Intriguingly, turns out that cracking continual learning might change this web3.arxiv.org/pdf/2512.12802

@xlr8harder yeah it's pretty interesting reading the chain of thought for these things. any major geopolitical event is rejected unless the search is done within the actual response, and then in the next messages it'll deny it completely saying it must have been fooled by fabricated results

in followup questions it apparently can't see its own research and decides again that it was hallucinating.

@kushibo @klara_sjo @billcullen37 it is still accurate even if you replaced molecule with mole. there are more hydrogen atoms in both a mole of water and a molecule of water than there are stars in the entire solar system.

@klara_sjo @billcullen37 I’ll confess, I had to read it again in order to get it, but my mind was thinking *molecule* of water was meant to be *mole* of water. But even that may not be accurate, since we have about one mole of stars in the observable universe, and there could be more beyond that. 🤷🏻‍♂️
