When the Greek ambassador Megasthenes lived in India around 300 BC, what he saw completely amazed him. One of his most shocking observations was how safely farmers lived. Equally mind-blowing was the king’s security team. Emperor Chandragupta did not trust regular male soldiers to protect him. Instead, his inner palace corridors were guarded by a highly trained troop of armed women warriors. Even the smartest people faced strict rules. The highest social class belonged to the Philosophers, whose job was to predict the weather and monsoons for the government. But there was a catch: if a philosopher’s predictions failed three times, they were legally banned from speaking for the rest of their life. Furthermore, Megasthenes was stunned by how much Indians valued freedom. Coming from Greece and Rome, where slavery was brutal and widespread, he wrote in awe that all Indians were free and no one was treated as a slave. Finally, the honesty of the people surprised him. He noted that in a massive military camp of 400,000 men, thefts almost never happened. Because people trusted each other so deeply, society ran smoothly without written contracts or law books, relying entirely on custom and word of mouth. #archaeohistories

The two main parties were the Indian National Congress and the All India Muslim League (Jinnah). There were two types of constituencies — General seats and Muslim reserved seats. Congress slogan: United India. Complete Independence. League slogan: Partition of India. Formation of Pakistan. Congress won a clear majority in the General seats, the League won an overwhelming majority of the Muslim reserved seats (429), the League’s victory gave official momentum to the partition of India and the formation of Pakistan. That day, he decided he would become an IAS officer. In Delhi, he taught mathematics to junior students to earn money. On some days, he skipped meals to save what little he had. He studied in public libraries. He prepared entirely in Hindi medium. He told himself he could not afford a second attempt. His father had sold everything. There was no plan B. In 2006, Govind Jaiswal cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination in his first attempt. He was 22 years old. All India Rank 48. The first thing he did with his first salary was pay for his father’s medical treatment for a leg injury sustained from years of pulling rickshaws. He said this, “Anyone who understands my circumstances will know I had no other option. I chose the only path I was left with. 🚨 Bangladesh-based influencer Karina Kaisar, known for her anti-India and Pro-Pakistan remarks, has reportedly been granted a medical visa by the Government of India for treatment at a hospital in Chennai. His name is Mohammad Aamir Khan. On the night of February 20, 1998, his mother asked him to buy medicines from a shop in Old Delhi. He was 18 years old. He never made it to the shop. Men in plain clothes stopped him on the street. He did not know they were police officers. They took him to an abandoned building. For seven days, he was held in illegal custody. He was tortured. He was forced to sign blank sheets of paper. Then the Delhi Police Special Cell produced him in court and charged him with 19 counts of bombing across Delhi, Ghaziabad, Rohtak and Sonepat between December 1996 and October 1997. He was presented to the media as a terrorist. His family was never informed. They spent days searching police stations before finding out what had happened. He spent 14 years in prison. Through torture. Through solitary confinement. He watched case after case fall apart in court as evidence was shown to be fabricated. In 2012, he was acquitted in 17 of 19 cases. Two cases remain pending. He had already served more time in jail than the maximum sentence he could have received even if convicted on all charges. He walked out of prison in January 2012. His father had died while he was inside. His mother had suffered a stroke so severe she no longer recognised him when he walked through the door. The National Human Rights Commission directed the Delhi government to pay him compensation. The amount was Rs 5 lakh. No officer from the Delhi Police Special Cell was charged. No one was suspended. No inquiry was ordered. He wrote a book about what was done to him. He called it Framed As A Terrorist. My 14 Year Struggle To Prove My Innocence. He now helps other wrongfully accused prisoners navigate the system that destroyed him. India gave him Rs 5 lakh and called it justice. Follow for real stories India never makes headlines about.
