Catastrophic drop in Gaza donations after ceasefire, fundraisers warn —— Fundraisers supporting Palestinians in Gaza report a “catastrophic” collapse in donations since the 10 October ceasefire, saying public perception has shifted as though Palestinian suffering has ended. Organizers of mutual-aid campaigns told the Guardian that small-donor contributions have sharply fallen despite families in temporary shelters still facing hunger, illness, and deep malnutrition. Australian activist Megan Hall said she once sent around $5,000 a week into Gaza during Israel’s assault, but raised just over $2,000 across all campaigns in October. Nonprofits running large-scale aid operations echo the decline. Gaza Soup Kitchen, which has raised over $5.8m since February 2024, saw donations drop by 51 percent from September to October, even as it continues serving 10,000 meals daily. Save the Children UK and Oxfam GB also report major reductions in social-media–driven fundraising, with campaigners warning that reduced media coverage and algorithmic suppression of Palestinian content have further undermined visibility for Gaza-focused drives. Fundraisers warn that the downturn comes as humanitarian needs intensify. Displaced families are entering winter without proper clothing or blankets, and aid agencies say the ceasefire has not improved conditions, given that most of Gaza remains destroyed, infrastructure has collapsed, and Israel continues to restrict aid flows. Organizers stress that donations remain critical to survival as Palestinians face worsening hunger, limited shelter, and a decimated healthcare system.
