I don’t think you guys understand the level of commitment Kobe had to PUSH himself to the limit. It wasn’t just 4 a.m. workouts. His former trainer Gary Vitti says Kobe asked trained Navy SEALs to WATERBOARD him- a form of literal torture- to see how much he could take mentally and physically. So when his former teammates jump on a podcast and gossip like little girls that Kobe wouldn’t talk to them, remember this: the Mamba was OBSESSIVE about doing anything it took to gain an edge and win. If a teammate was soft, he would be hard with them. Some stepped up and won with him; others cry about it a decade later after he passed away✌️ (hoopcentrallTV YT)

I take pride in my yard. I edge the driveway, fertilize on a schedule, and keep the grass exactly two inches high. So, when the new guy moved into the house next door and let his lawn go to ruin, I was furious. For a month, the grass grew higher and higher. Dandelions took over. The bushes were wild. I complained to my wife every evening. "It's bringing down the property value," I grumbled. "What kind of lazy guy just lets a house fall apart?" Finally, I had enough. I marched over there on a Saturday morning, ready to give him a piece of my mind. I pounded on the door. It took a minute, but it slowly creaked open. The man standing there was pale, gaunt, and looked like he hadn't slept in a year. He was wearing a hospital bracelet. Before I could start my lecture about neighborhood standards, he spoke. "I'm sorry about the yard," he rasped, leaning heavily against the doorframe. "My wife was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer the week we moved in. I've been sleeping in a chair next to her hospital bed for thirty days. I just came home to grab some clean clothes." All the righteous anger drained out of my body. I felt sick to my stomach. I looked at my perfect, manicured lawn, and then at his overgrown one. I realized how incredibly small and petty I was. "I'm so sorry," I stammered. He just nodded and gently closed the door. I walked back to my garage. I didn't tell my wife what happened. I just pulled out my mower, pushed it over to his yard, and started the engine. I mowed his front yard. I edged the driveway. I pulled every single weed from his flower beds. When I was done, I went to the hardware store, bought a flat of petunias, and planted them by his front steps. I've mowed his lawn every Saturday since. We never spoke about it. I just want him to know that when he drives home from the worst place on earth, his house is waiting for him, and he doesn't have to worry about a thing. You never know what kind of battle the person next door is fighting. Give grace first. You can always be angry later. Anonymous

“A Chicago teen kept breaking into the X-Sport Fitness Center and using its equipment. Management warned him they were going to turn him in but he kept finding ways to get into the place... Police were finally called in to deal with it. Officer Mario Valenti learned that the 15-year-old previously had a membership to the facility, but his Mother could no longer afford to pay for it. All he wanted to do was play basketball there. But instead of charging the youngster with breaking and entering, the officer handed over $150 of his own money to buy the boy a membership that would last about four months. When the owner of the fitness center contacted his corporate office about what happened, officials there were so touched by the officer’s kindness, that they extended the youngster’s membership for two years. As Officer Valenti said: “At the end of the day, it’s not about gratitude. Most of us took this job to help people, not to hurt them. The job can be negative. For the most part, the job is dealing with good people having a very bad day, so you’re not seeing the best side of people…. I’d rather have him playing ball than being on the street and possibly getting into trouble.”

Shaquille O’Neal said, “My stepdad was a Sergeant in the Army, a serious and strong man of character. We had an excellent relationship... I once played at Madison Square Garden against the New York Knicks in my first season in the NBA. I had a terrible game. Afterward, he called me and asked why I played so badly. He wondered if it was the pressure of facing Patrick Ewing and the Knicks. I told him I felt pressure. He said, ‘Tomorrow, I want you home at 7:00 AM. Pick me up. We’re going to see a family that has no home.’ On the way, we encountered a family in need. My stepdad stopped, gave them money for their next meal, and said, "That’s pressure. You have everything; you’re weak. There’s no pressure in playing basketball and earning millions of dollars. Real pressure is felt by those who don’t know when or where their next meal will come from." He told me to get out and help that family. I got out and saw a man with his wife and two children who had just lost their home. The man was looking for work. He told me he was cutting grass. I called a friend and asked him to get this man a job. I called another friend and said I needed an apartment for a family of four, promising to send a check the next day. They needed help. After that, I never felt pressure in a basketball game again because that family had real pressure.”
