Today, on the third day of my Western Corridor STI Mission, my STI team and I conducted a high-level institutional assessment at the Presidential Initiative on Banana Industrial Development (PIBID) in Nyaruzinga, Bushenyi, where we engaged the institution's leadership, scientists, engineers, researchers, innovators and Tooke technical staff before undertaking a comprehensive inspection of the banana processing plant. From premium Tooke flour, porridge formulations, nutritious baby foods and other value-added banana products, the facility demonstrates how science, engineering and industrial research can transform Uganda's most abundant agricultural resource into commercially competitive products that reduce post-harvest losses, expand farmer incomes and strengthen agro-industrial value chains. PIBID is compelling proof that Uganda's journey towards a US$500 billion economy by 2040 will not be realised through the export of raw commodities, but through research-led industrialisation, value addition and technology-driven manufacturing. As we strengthen the Banana Industrial Research and Development Centre, our resolve remains unequivocal: to accelerate commercialisation, deepen scientific innovation, expand high-value production and position Uganda as a globally competitive knowledge-based economy anchored in Science, Technology and Innovation. #WesternCorridorSTI #STIUganda #UgandaAtWork

I conclude the third day of my Western Corridor STI Mission at the Presidential Initiative on Banana Industrial Development (PIBID) and the Banana Industrial Research and Development Centre (BIRDC) in Nyaruzinga, Bushenyi, with renewed conviction that Uganda's industrial future lies in the intelligent application of science to our natural endowments. I engaged the Centre's leadership, scientists, researchers, engineers, innovators, technical staff and banana outgrowers, inspected the processing plant and assessed the Industrial Technology Park's water supply infrastructure—an indispensable foundation for research, innovation, agro-industrialisation and sustainable production. From patented Tooke innovations, including instant matooke flour, bakery-grade flour and banana fibre technologies for textiles, I witnessed science translating agricultural potential into industrial value. This is the model of development Uganda must relentlessly scale: research that becomes intellectual property, innovation that becomes industry, and agriculture that becomes wealth. Every factory powered by science and supported by resilient infrastructure strengthens farmer incomes, expands markets, creates dignified employment and advances our march towards a US$500 billion economy by 2040. Our responsibility is to accelerate commercialisation, protect innovation and ensure that every scientific breakthrough translates into measurable national prosperity. #WesternCorridorSTI #STIUganda #UgandaAtWork

What is your understanding of the precommissioning phase of the #TilengaProject? For William Byaruhanga, Precommissioning Supervisor Pipeline, it is about ensuring the pipeline is fully prepared for operation through critical activities such as cleaning, gauging, hydrotesting, dewatering, and purging. Drawing from his experience on the project, William reflects on how working alongside teams with diverse backgrounds and expertise has expanded his knowledge, strengthened his skills, and reinforced the value of collaboration in preparing the project for its next phase. ▶️Hear William's perspective on preparing the pipeline for operation. #CreatingSharedValue

TODAY AT NALI, KYANKWANZI: I gave a lecture to our Ugandan returnees from South Africa, dismantling the traps of xenophobia and internal division that continue to weaken Africa's collective strength. True Pan-Africanism is not merely political rhetoric; it is an economic imperative. Our continent possesses nearly 60% of the world's uncultivated arable land and about 30% of global mineral resources, yet contributes less than 3% of global wealth because we continue exporting raw materials while importing finished products. This model exports jobs, technology and value addition. We must reverse this trend through science, technology, innovation and industrialisation, transforming our youthful population from consumers into inventors, entrepreneurs, manufacturers and global producers. Africa's greatest resource is not beneath its soil but within the ingenuity of its people. Real nation-building demands technological sovereignty and the capacity to produce what our people need. Through the #BUBU (Build Uganda, Buy Uganda) strategy, I am championing digital transformation, local pharmaceutical manufacturing, research commercialisation and innovation-driven enterprises that retain wealth within our economy while creating jobs. Our returning Ugandans bring valuable skills and global experience that can accelerate Uganda's industrial transformation. Returning home is not a setback; it is a strategic opportunity to build a self-reliant, knowledge-based economy. My ministry remains committed to connecting these returnees with government programmes, financing opportunities and innovation ecosystems so their experience translates into productive investment and measurable national progress. #STI #PanAfricanism #BUBU

I am truly humbled by the love, appreciation, and confidence shown to Hon. Mercy Lakisa and me through the special dinner organised by our young people to congratulate us upon the trust bestowed upon us by His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni following our recent appointments. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to every young person who contributed to making this occasion memorable. The beautiful portraits, thoughtful gifts, and heartfelt messages of encouragement are not only deeply appreciated but also remind us of the great responsibility we carry to serve our country with dedication, humility, and integrity. I thank His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the confidence he has placed in me to serve as Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation in the Office of the President. I also congratulate Hon. Mercy Lakisa on her appointment as State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs. Together, we are committed to serving the people of Uganda with purpose and unwavering commitment. The NRM 2026–2031 Manifesto rightly recognises that Uganda's young people are the driving force behind our nation's transformation. Through deliberate investments in science, technology, innovation, digital transformation, skills development, entrepreneurship, industrialisation, and job creation, our youth will continue to be equipped with the opportunities they need to lead, innovate, and create wealth. To all the young people and the Gen Z generation, thank you for believing in us and for standing with us. Your confidence inspires us to work even harder, and your aspirations strengthen our resolve to build a Uganda where every young person has the opportunity to realise their full potential. May God bless you all, and may God bless Uganda.

"I was the first #TilengaProject staff member here." Kenneth Opitto, Deputy Construction Manager, #TotalEnergiesEPUganda, had a reflective walk-and-talk with @RichardTuwangye, sharing his perspective on a journey that began with clearing the Tilenga Industrial Area and has evolved into the development of the Central Processing Facility (CPF). Over the past five years, Kenneth has witnessed the transformation of the site from an empty industrial area into a facility designed to bring together production from the Tilenga oil fields at a single central location, supported by thousands of people working towards a common goal. ▶️ Press play and watch this conversation! #CreatingSharedValue

This man, has carried the Men’s agenda flag so high for the last 4 years. Started Muntu Wa Wansi educational & sensitization programs on social media, that have shaped men into real men. He has also empowered them about their rights & responsibilities. Does he even know the families he has protected & family feuds prevented as a result? He’s so humble & doesn’t even brag about it as long as he’s served above self. I hope this post will trigger a national award soon. I celebrate you @kyamageroandrew

Every milestone tells a story of effort, learning, and teamwork. On the #TilengaProject, #TotalEnergiesEPUganda, together with its JV partners, reached a significant milestone earlier this year, drilling over 200 wells out of the planned 420+. For James Male, Well Completion Supervisor, @TotalEnergiesUG, this achievement reflects a team that continues to learn, improve, and refine every step. As the drilling campaign progresses, each well becomes an opportunity to optimise performance and raise the bar even higher.

A Message of Profound Gratitude to H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni! Your Excellency, President of the Republic of Uganda, General (Rtd) Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, I receive with profound humility, immense gratitude, and an unwavering sense of patriotic duty Your Excellency’s gracious appointment of my person as Minister in the Office of the President in Charge of Science, Technology and Innovation. This singular honour is not merely an elevation to public office; it is a solemn national trust, a call to stewardship, and a compelling mandate to contribute to Uganda’s scientific renaissance under your visionary leadership. I am deeply grateful for the confidence you have reposed in me and for the opportunity to serve our beloved nation at a defining moment in its transformation journey. Your Excellency’s enduring commitment to science, technology, innovation, and knowledge-driven development has fundamentally reshaped Uganda’s development trajectory. Long before technological advancement became a global imperative, you recognized its strategic significance as a catalyst for national sovereignty, industrialization, wealth creation, and socio-economic transformation. Your foresight has inspired a generation of innovators, researchers, engineers, entrepreneurs, and young Ugandans to believe that the future can indeed be designed, engineered, and built by Ugandans themselves. As I assume this responsibility, I do so with a clear appreciation of the magnitude of the task before us. The future of nations will increasingly be determined by their capacity to generate knowledge, harness emerging technologies, accelerate innovation ecosystems, strengthen research and development, and translate scientific discoveries into tangible solutions for their people. Uganda must not merely participate in this future; Uganda must help shape it. I therefore pledge my utmost dedication to advancing Your Excellency’s vision of a scientifically empowered, technologically competitive, innovation-driven, and industrialized Uganda. I am committed to fostering stronger linkages between research institutions, academia, industry, government, and the private sector; promoting indigenous innovation; supporting transformative technologies; and ensuring that scientific advancement becomes an instrument of inclusive prosperity and national progress. I also extend my sincere appreciation to the Government of Uganda, colleagues, mentors, scientists, innovators, engineers, development partners, and all Ugandans whose collective efforts continue to strengthen our national innovation ecosystem. This appointment is a reminder that leadership is most meaningful when it is exercised in service of others and in pursuit of a purpose greater than oneself. To the young people of Uganda, this moment is a testament to the limitless possibilities that emerge when talent, discipline, knowledge, innovation, and patriotism converge. Let us continue to dream boldly, innovate fearlessly, and work tirelessly for the advancement of our nation. Your Excellency, I am profoundly honoured by your trust. May God grant me the wisdom to lead, the courage to innovate, the discipline to serve, and the resolve to contribute meaningfully to the realization of Uganda’s transformation agenda. For God and My Country. Eng. Jonard Asiimwe Akiki Minister in the Office of the President in Charge of Science, Technology and Innovation - Republic of Uganda 🇺🇬

Uganda stands as one of Africa’s top coffee exporter, yet we export raw beans at a fraction of their true value. It’s time for change. By boosting yields through advanced farming, organizing smallholder cooperatives, and adding value through local roasting, branding, and export, Uganda can transform coffee from a raw commodity to a premium, high-value product. With disciplined policy, innovation, and local consumption strategies, we can double our coffee earnings, create jobs, and secure a sustainable future for our farmers.Let’s turn Uganda’s coffee from gold in the ground to gold in the cup. #CoffeeInnovation #Uganda#SustainableGrowth#ValueAddition#AgriculturalTransformation
