In a high-level consultative meeting held this afternoon, Principal Secretary for Irrigation, @EphantusKim, engaged H.E. Dr. Hon @MusaliaMudavadi Prime Cabinet Secretary and CS for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, to seek strategic support in advancing bilateral and regional cooperation on the implementation of the proposed Daua Multipurpose Dam project. The project, which spans across Kenya, Ethiopia, and Somalia, is envisioned as a transformative transboundary initiative aimed at enhancing food security, water resource management, and regional economic integration. Recognizing its cross border significance, PS @EphantusKim emphasized the need for coordinated diplomatic engagement to align the interests and commitments of the three partner states. In response, the Prime Cabinet Secretary is set to lead a Kenyan delegation in mid April for high-level bilateral talks in Ethiopia. The mission will focus on fostering mutual understanding and strengthening cooperation frameworks to facilitate the development of the proposed Daua Multipurpose Dam. This flagship project is expected to support irrigation, hydropower generation, and sustainable water supply, thereby delivering shared socio economic benefits to the participating countries. To fast track progress, a joint technical team comprising experts from the respective countries has already been established. The team will spearhead feasibility alignment, technical harmonization, and the development of a coordinated implementation roadmap. Additionally, the collaboration is expected to form the foundation for a joint resource mobilization strategy aimed at securing financing for the broader Daua Basin Development Programme. The engagement underscores Kenya’s commitment to regional integration and sustainable development through strategic infrastructure investments that address shared challenges. Also present during the meeting was Hon. Eli Gor MCA for Oloolua Ward in Kajiado North Constituency.

The Lower Sabor Irrigation Development Project, under the National Irrigation Authority, continues to anchor expanded irrigation and food security efforts in Tembelio Ward, Moiben Constituency. It forms part of the integrated Lower Sabor–Chepkosom–Kisonei water programme that is transforming agricultural production and improving farmer livelihoods across the area. These investments are delivering strong production growth, improved incomes, and access to export markets. Over the last three years, farmers in Tembelio Location have exported 320 tonnes of avocados, earning approximately Kshs 30.4 million from European markets, alongside other export crops such as passion fruits. Farmers are also producing a wide range of fruits and vegetables for local markets, including fresh produce supplied to Eldoret town, strengthening local food supply and rural livelihoods. As part of my festive season and New Year engagements, I met farmers and residents of Tembelio Location during the Annual General Meeting of the Lower Sabor–Chepkosom–Kisonei Irrigation Development Project at St. Ann Joakim Chepkosom Secondary School to review progress and discuss the way forward. During the event, we issued improved dairy cows to support increased milk production as part of the Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme, which empowers communities within the Kaptagat forest ecosystem. We later visited the Chepchobit Dam to assess ongoing rehabilitation works, which will enhance water availability for farmers in Kimoning Location, Tembelio Ward, and surrounding areas. Together with CPA Ephantus Kimotho (Principal Secretary, Irrigation), area MP Hon. Prof. Phylis Bartoo, and Hon. Dr. Gideon Kimaiyo (MP, Keiyo South), among other leaders, we urged farmers to scale up production for economic growth.
