@themsaid Great share. What do you think the cost profile would be if you rewrote and run Go in Lambda? And why not ECS, instead of EC2?

One month since switching from Lambda to EC2. Cost savings are hundreds of thousands of dollars on annual basis. We haven't used reserved instances yet, and I'm convinced that by moving a few more endpoints from PHP to Go, we could reduce the number of instances to half.

Google is in trouble. I got early 'Alpha' access to GPT-4 with browsing and ran some tests. Here are 8 crazy things I found:

I think this is spot on. I had a similar thought. I think people are enamoured with ChatGPT for the same reason that straight white men succeed in job interviews. There’s something in society’s psyche that rewards confidence more than competence. And ChatGPT sounds confident.

I’ve been playing with GPT-3 for months now so let me save you a bit of time. It’s a bullshitter. I mean this in the technical philosophical sense. It produces words that are precisely engineered to sound convincing with zero guarantees that they’re related to reality.

@__steele yep - but with services like EKS, if a workload requires persistent filesystem, it is the go-to.

@monkchips @GergelyOrosz I'd be great to hear how other people are performing such a change. Is this the best strategy? Heavy handedness might expedite an outcome but it might disenfranchise staff in a highly fluid employment market.

@monkchips @GergelyOrosz It was indeed a great blog! Taking a company with poor on-call uncompensated culture to one where its importance is emphasised can be hard. I moved my workplace to option (6). This seems to be a good start and then moving to (5) if there are continued gaps are my thoughts.

@Pete_Snell @awesomederek Let’s not jump to conclusions if this is conjecture. I too am disappointed by its service though incidents happen. It’s how they communicate out and respond dictates whether they’re a good partner or not

@awesomederek Did anyone really not see this coming with the acquisition? It appears they dumped staff members that actually understand the service and now they can’t keep it operational for more than a few weeks. Really disappointed, it was a good service.

@petehanssens I use AWS SSO from Onelogin idp using SCIM provisioning. Works well. Unsure if Google will do the SCIM provisioning; it'd be a shame if it doesn't as this is how we map people into specific SAML roles

I’m looking forward to sharing @REA_Group’s platform story at #platformcon this year giving a perspective on the question: when can you afford a platform? Super interesting topics and speakers available for Q&A on slack during the event! platformcon.com/talk/when-can-…

How does Twitter work? Let’s take a look at it from the architectural point of view before Elon takes it. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐓𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐭: 1️⃣ A tweet comes in through the Write API. 2️⃣ The Write API routes the request to the Fanout service. #twitter #systemdesign
