@w8lid We were there in March 2023 for a couple weeks and loved every moment of our trip. Grab a Japan Rail Pass and load up a Suica card when you arrive and your transportation needs will be covered. IIRC, I used a place called Japan Experience to order the passes.

@eschecter @N7AGF @sbisson @N0WMD @KD8TTE At altitude, the balloons are big. Car-sized. But the payload is vanishingly small. And the 20 m dipole is ultra-thin wire. I wonder if they even show up on radar. I have a payload here. I keep it beaconing on an upstairs window ledge. One day I will launch it.

@PeterVogel @sbisson The current crop of balloons are generally the 32-inch Yokohama, which are not aluminized. But there are some of us still working through our old supplies of aluminized 36-inch party balloons.

@N7AGF @sbisson The balloons I've written columns on are not aluminized as far as I know. Yes, they do have an ultrathin 20 m dipole antenna.

Now, were any of these so-called UFOs that have been shot down, actually amateur radio balloons? Many of us are tracking half a dozen or so at any one time.
