‼️🚨 ALARMING: Google now treats privacy as suspicious behavior by default. Users of GrapheneOS, CalyxOS, /e/OS, and other deGoogled Android phones are being locked out of millions of websites unless they install the exact Google Play Services software they deliberately removed.
GrapheneOS is recommended by the EFF and used by journalists, lawyers, and activists in high-risk environments. The audience most likely to read Google's data practices and refuse its terms is now flagged as fraudulent for that exact decision.
What happened?:
▪️ Google announced "Cloud Fraud Defense" at Cloud Next on April 22-23, 2026, branding it "the next evolution of reCAPTCHA." Existing reCAPTCHA customers were auto-migrated.
▪️ When the system flags traffic as suspicious, the old click-the-bus puzzle is gone. Users get a QR code instead.
▪️ Scanning the QR code requires Google Play Services running on the device. Internet Archive snapshots show this requirement has been live since at least October 2025, silently rolled out for 7 months before anyone noticed.
▪️ No Play Services = no QR scan = locked out.
The bigger picture:
▪️ Google already tried this in 2023. It was called Web Environment Integrity (WEI), and it would have let Google decide which devices were "real enough" to access the web. Standards bodies and the public pushed back hard, and Google killed it. Three years later, the same idea is back, just hidden behind a QR code instead of a browser feature.
▪️ reCAPTCHA runs on millions of websites. Every developer who keeps using it is now, by default, telling deGoogled Android users they're not welcome...

It's so over... I hope you guys manage to escape the Russian/Chinese path to total Internet isolation and deanonymization. Trust me, it's horrible, we're living through it.

YouTube’s website is currently affected by a major bug that causes individual video tabs to consume over 7 GB of RAM.
Users are experiencing severe lag, frozen tabs, and in some cases the entire browser becomes unresponsive.
The issue stems from an endless loop in how the interface handles the action buttons below the video player (Like, Share, Save, etc.).
The layout code repeatedly shows and hides buttons as it tries to fit them into the available space, triggering constant browser recalculations.
This bug impacts Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, and other browsers.
A reliable temporary fix is to block the problematic menu using an ad blocker such as uBlock Origin.
Add this filter: www(.)youtube(.)com###menu
This removes the buttons under the player but immediately stops the memory leak and freezing.

A lot has happened over the last few days...
- Governments worldwide are trying to ban VPNs.
- Artists and VTubers are getting arrested for art they created themselves.
- Censorship being praised.
- Our privacy is being breached.
- Propaganda is being spewed on how should we live, what we must say, and what we must think.
- Untruths and falsehoods being forced fed to us and condemning what is fact and right.
- Our hobbies condemned.
- Cowards in the street.
- Useful idiots being used to spread nonsense.
- Our politicians that we hoped for are drunkards, tricksters, and villains.
- Our women, wives, and mothers are being attacked.
- Our children are being mutilated both mentally and physically from the inside out.
- Our art and the art we enjoy is being condemned.
Everything that's good in this world is starting to erode away. Do these people celebrating and supporting this erosion want us to be happy or miserable?
So I have to ask. Why? Why do you people want this world to be less bright? Why do you want freedoms to be taken away? Freedom of Speech. Freedom of Expression. Why do you want them taken away? And don't answer with the same awful answers I have seen all over the internet; those wrong answers, bad takes, and awful excuses are getting very old. IF YOU DON'T LIKE WHAT YOU SEE OR HEAR, WALK AWAY. Simple as that. Don't punish or condemn people for liking or doing the things YOU don't like.
Politicians. From the UK, Europe, and America. Why won't you help your countrymen? You should be helping the homeless making sure they have food to eat, beds to sleep in, and shelter. Instead, you help vile criminals and punish their victims for trying to stop them or saving themselves. Some vile people destroy property and priceless items and their excuse is because "It offends me" or "God wills it." And these vile people thank you by turning peaceful neighborhoods and strong cities into garbage dumps where lawlessness reigns and crime flourishes.
I'm getting tired of this world; it's deforming right before my eyes. The world I grew up with is slowly dying. I don't want my freedoms taken away by idiotic politicians, brainless stooges, and money whoring bureaucrats.
This is a message to #WEF and the rest of the globalists.
YOU. DON'T. CONTROL. US.

So, @PlayStation is basically unusable for me now. The UK Online Safety Act means I have to hand over a face scan or government ID just to use basic features. My PAYG mobile isn't accepted, and I’m not giving biometrics to a company with a history of massive data breaches. #Ps5

🚨 BREAKING: Google just quietly ended open Android as we know it.
Starting September 2026, every Android app developer must register their real identity with Google, sign a contract, pay a fee, and submit government ID.
No registration. No app.
This covers Play Store apps, third-party stores, and sideloaded APKs. There is no workaround.
The rollout starts in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand before expanding globally in 2027.
Google calls it Android Developer Verification. The stated reason is malware. Sideloaded apps are reportedly 50x more likely to carry malicious software than Play Store apps.
What developers have to do:
→ Register in Google’s verification system
→ Submit legal name, address, phone number, and government ID
→ Pay a one-time $25 fee
Apps from unverified developers get blocked entirely or buried under warnings severe enough to kill installs.
Android built its dominance on openness. That era is ending. The walled garden just got a fence.

Any PlayStation game purchased digitally after March's sytem update will reportedly now require an internet connection once every 30 days to validate the license 🎮 If the console stays offline longer than that, the games will not launch until you reconnect (via @MrZackXOfficial)

The most fascinating part about this debate isn’t “Japan vs. the West” - it’s Japan vs. nearly the entire rest of the world.
Game Console Emulation, game preservation, modding, and fan translation scenes are massive across Europe, North America, Australia, South America, Russia, and even much of China.
There's a few key historical reasons:
1. The Homebrew community. The powerful 1980s homebrew & tinkering culture on home computers (especially the AMIGA) taught entire generations how to program, crack, and modify games.
2. Poverty. In many countries -especially former socialist ones- consoles and games were expensive or unavailable. Emulation became the only realistic way to play and preserve them.
3. Censorship & limited access. Fans had to import, copy VHS tapes, smuggle anime/games, and create their own translations. A lot of this underground work happened at conventions.
This fan-driven effort continues today: the best translations of Japanese games and anime are still often done by passionate pirates and hobbyists, while official localization (especially by big companies like Crunchyroll) tends to either be done poorly or contain contemporary American politics.
A few additional interesting facts:
- The Nintendo European Research and Development team(NERD) has in the past hired console emulator developers to develop the modern emulators used on modern services like Nintendo Switch Online. However these days Nintendo is far more aggresive towards them.
- Companies like SEGA actively benefit from and tolerate this culture. The Sonic the Hedgehog scene is legendary for its ROM hacks, mods, and fangames (Sonic Robo Blast 2, SAGE Expo, Sonic Hacking Contest). SEGA has historically allowed these to flourish as long as they stay non-commercial - something that keeps the franchise alive and passionate in the West.

There's such a different response to this from Japanese fans and everyone else, most people are happy about a dead game being brought back by the community.
But I've seen a bunch of Japanese fans angry about this because it goes against the wishes of Square Enix.
