Just heard on KUOW about the deal for Seattle City Light to spend $1 Billion dollars on fish to be allowed to continue to operate 3 hydro dams it built 70 years ago. That works out to about $0.04/kWh, or 25% of your electricity bill*. Fish are important, but it’s a massive stealth tax on energy, likely more than it cost to originally build the dams. * on the energy from this source

Well.. my 3 hives failed to over winter. Clusters were huge about 6 weeks ago. strong. plenty of honey and pollen at that time. But now empty with no signs of rodent or robbing. Must have starved Just a lot of dead bees. Hopefully your bees are doing better

I hope this gets overturned. Flat taxes are already progressive. 10% of $1M is a much bigger number than 10% of $100K. WA's constitution says all taxes shall be uniform. The legislature thinks it found a loophole by calling this an "excise tax on receiving income." A legal challenge is already filed. The funny thing is WA already knows how to tax the rich. Permitting fees, real estate transfer fees, licensing fees, estate taxes. King County charged me over $100K for a building permit on my single family home. This tax is just bad marketing. It only impacts ~0.5% of filers, but many people believe (correctly) that they will be hit by the second-order effects. They could have raised the same money without the backlash.

Today, we're celebrating a lot of wins thanks to the Millionaires' Tax. A win for working families, with 460,000 additional Washingtonians added to the Working Families Tax Credit, an annual check for between $335 and $1,330. A win for small businesses, with 138,000 seeing their B&O tax reduced or eliminated. A win for kids, with free school breakfast and lunch for every student and investments in affordable childcare. And a win for all Washingtonians, with no sales tax on over-the-counter drugs, hygiene products, and diapers.
