@EterRadioApp Thanks, I revoked Mic access from Eter, which fixes the issue. Really, there should be a Setting within Eter that disables Shazam completely.

@EterRadioApp Eter on macOS keeps trying to grab the microphone when connected to Bluetooth headphones. This causes repeated interruptions. I don't even know why it needs Mic access. There seems to be no option to turn this off.

It is with great sadness that I learn Prof. Philippe Bastiaens passed away today. Philippe was deep thinker, passionate scientist and my mentor. I feel this loss acutely.

@renu3m @dnjoshispeaks It is embarassingly elitists that you are embarrassed by how people use cutlery. I eat with the fork in my right hand, and knife in the left. In 18 years of living in Europe, people only have asked if I was left-handed and no one was bothered about it.

A sincere advice to some Indians . When you are travelling abroad , along with your baggage carry some manners too . Don’t speak loudly in fine dining restaurants , keep your Daal , Bhaat Shaak , Rotli conversations to your rooms. There’s no need to do video calls with family. Last but not the least don’t make Chaak Chaak noise when you eat. Thank You.

@NikoMcCarty However, I have always felt skeptical about Mendel reporting 7 traits - all of them monogenic, when we know today that most phenotypic characteristics are polygenic. He must have undoubtedly seen polygenic inheritance. Did he cherry-pick?

11. Many scholars have accused Mendel of “fudging” his pea-cross results. But newer evidence suggests, simply, that Mendel did not "release" or "lecture on" all of his data, omitting extra trials; and that's what threw off the statistics. He didn't hide this fact, either.

Gregor Mendel is so much cooler, and his life so much richer, than your high school biology class might suggest. Here are 12 things I recently learned about Mendel. 1. After his death, thousands of his pages (filled with data) were destroyed. Nobody knows why this happened.

@CoderUday There is a different between writing text and writing a book. The vast majority of ‘software programming’ is about skill set. But acquiring the skills to paint does not necessarily give to the creativity to think of *what to paint* to make art.

@bhav_paaji @sanjana_writer Don’t do that. Ever. It doesn’t work for any serious workflow because the iPadOS apps are all handicapped. Better off with a MacBook Air.

@ShwetaKukreja_ IPhones are not expensive compared to other flagship phones for eg from Samsung. The difference is that Apple only makes flagship phones, while other manufacturers make a range of budget phone too. Can you imagine the anti-trust lawsuit Apple will have if Apple Music was free?

Apple music should be free if you are buying an iPhone. For this much money, they should just give it away for free without a question.

@ganeshsonawane Parliamentary protocol is simply derived from Victorian British tradition as well. There is no particular reason it is more valid than any other tradition. Former colonies are simply asserting their identities now - perhaps dramatic but not savage certainly.

Unpopular opinion : Just because Maori is traditional doesn't mean one can do it in parliament and rugby matches, it's not like Maori is an ancient innocent tribe, they too had genocided and enslaved the previous inhabitants of New Zealand(Moriori). Also, these savage acts affect the brand image of an otherwise fantastic nation. There are better ways to handle disagreements

It would save a huge amount of time for researchers if @JHepatology would provide a proper official CSL file for citation formatting. I had to modify the JHEP CSL file available for Zotero. The upgraded version can be obtained from : cumulus.ifado.de/f/7f705cf50a84…

@thinkingwest It was a force for good in the same way that the World Wars were a force for good in terms of industrial development and technological progress. The problem is the asymmetric distribution in cost borne by one group of people, while another group merely enjoyed the benefits.

The British Empire was, in some ways, a force for good. In many places it occupied it: -raised the standard of living -developed infrastructure -promoted education It also single-handedly ended slavery for much of the world…🧵(thread)

@plantscientist9 @AcademicChatter I learnt that the first mistake is writing a grant for an idea that will need equipment and resources you don’t have without asking for them in that very grant. You will also learn to take deadlines less seriously esp. if you are the ‘contributor’ and not a stake holder.

#newPI here! 6 months in, no grants, 1 PhD student self funded, don't have money to fund equipment she needs for her experiment. Drowning in reviews, deadlines and unexpected admin every day. PhD student needs time I don't have. Just want to quit. Thoughts? @AcademicChatter
