On Friday (January 16), the Jamaican Diaspora in the United Kingdom (UK) delivered humanitarian supplies in support of the country’s recovery efforts following Hurricane Melissa. The shipment of over 135 boxes was received on behalf of the Government and people of Jamaica by State Minister the Honourable Alando Terrelonge and Mr. Marlon Brown, Regional Director @ODPEM. The shipment was facilitated by Mr. Jackson Smith, CEO of Fantasy Wings, with coordination support from a slew of partner organisations, as well as Mr. Nathaniel Peat (@natpeat ), Global Jamaica Diaspora Council Member for the UK and Chair of @jamin_uk , who helped raise more than $3 million in support of recovery efforts, alongside additional in-kind contributions. 1/2 #mfaftja

Jamaica is hurting. We must respond. The devastation caused by the recent hurricane has left families shattered, homes destroyed, and lives lost. Nineteen souls gone. Children displaced. Communities broken. And still, the full extent of the damage is unfolding. I’ve been working quietly behind the scenes mobilising support, coordinating logistics, working on multiple projects, and trying to reach loved ones. My father’s phone is still unreachable. Family, friends and cousins haven’t been heard from in days. It’s been heavy seeing Jamaica’s devestation. It’s been personal. I’ve been receiving calls, WhatsApp’s messages on LinkedIn and on Instagram so many people are hurting. Greatful for the conversations with @kaminajsmith on Friday relating to another relief effort, our Government is trying their best. But now, I’m asking for your help. Three Jamaicans living overseas have given qualified support to the idea of voting rights in elections here being extended to the Diaspora.
