A few weeks ago, I set out to get some experience building something with PHP that is NOT #WordPress, and decided that I'd dive deep into #Laravel. I figured the best way to approach it would be to just build *something*, and see how far I could get. A project for learning.

@hashim_warren I cannot fathom a scenario where a CMS is necessary in this case, let alone one with a lot of flashy features. One could get away with VERY cheap hosting if it was a simple HTML/CSS site.

I really love this approach. Why would a poet or artist ever want a computer to write poetry or make art for them? That's the fun part! Give computers the boring stuff. The stuff you dread doing. The stuff that takes time away from what you love.

I can't stop thinking about this exchange. What is with people dog piling on someone who has made outstanding amounts of money and pays his employees super well and provides an amazing balanced Life for people to pursue leisurely activities of their choice? What is wrong with these people? Literally creates a dream job, talks about how much he enjoys it, gets told he's a failure... Wut? Bro runs an 8 figure (assumed) yearly business, has a family and loves them, and won the LeMans 24-hour race... I would call that winning

@jeremypollock LOL, I had a conversation with some friends last night about this. I said that TikTok would love nothing more than for me to create TikToks about the dangers of TikTok, and wow is this timeline depressing 🤣

@nathanrice Complex systems inevitably experience extinction events. Wait. That sounds like an awesome idea for a TikTok or two. Off I go!

I'm more and more convinced that short form video content consumption will be our undoing. Especially when its delivered algorithmically. Frankly, I'm not sure if the benefits of AI technology outweigh the very obvious and possibly unavoidable societal decay. If I'm wrong, LMK

@John_Parris Agree 100%. I can't believe that's part of the standard.

PSR-12 but with tabs... because indenting with spaces is for hipster javascripters.

I can't help but think that it would be amazing if most websites could run on cheap shared hosting, and consume so few resources (compute/memory) that it would still run awesome in most situations.

I may genuinely be too nostalgic for my own good. But this ^ feels like such a dream scenario to work with. Maybe those days are gone?

I would like to know if I'm way off / alone here, so let me know if you build stuff on the web and this resonates with you: 1. No build 2. Server-side rendering 3. Languages used where they were intended (browser vs server) 4. Actual CSS 5. Prioritizing performance
