This is what “no resistance in Russia” looks like. It may be quiet, but it persists: Posters and leaflets calling not to go to war. Poetry read in public spaces. Flowers brought to memorials. And also: A communication tower destroyed in Lipetsk. A freight locomotive set on fire in Oryol. Meanwhile: 7 years in prison for posts about Bucha. 10 years for an alleged donation. 15 days in detention for comments. Fines — for a slogan, a tattoo, even a like on a post. These are fragments of resistance — and repression — across Russia in February and March

Our TV ads – under the concept And Then? – were banned in the UK, by Clearcast (an organization formed by the major TV channels in the UK which, on behalf of the authorities, must approve all TV advertising in the UK). Their arguments included: · “The overall concept lacks clarity.” · “It is unclear why certain examples are included, who the ‘speaker’ represents, and the role of individuals depicted in the car.” · “Several examples (e.g., paedophiles, rapists, murderers) risk causing serious offence and could imply that the VPN facilitates criminal activity.” · “Referencing topics such as: Paedophiles, Rapists, Murderers, Enemies of the state, Journalists, Refugees, Controversial opinions, People’s bedrooms, Police officers, Children’s headsets … is inappropriate and irrelevant to the average consumer’s experience with a VPN.” We think their arguments are nonsense. On the one hand, censorship and mass surveillance are escalating in the UK, through new laws, government pressure and proposed legislation. On the other hand, criticism of censorship and mass surveillance is being blocked through processes that are arbitrary and – to use their own words – unclear. When we tried to criticize the TV ads ban through outdoor ads, they were also banned by government bodies. We believe the situation is both Orwellian and Kafkaesque. You can watch all the banned ads and read more about escalating mass surveillance and censorship in the UK on our site: mullvad.net/and-then/uk And then? When our ads were banned on British TV, we took them to the streets instead and projected them onto walls in London.

The Russian parliament, State Duma, is considering a new bill, that would allow Putin to invade any country “to defend Russians,” if they get arrested, sentenced by international courts.

Thanks to another round of 🇺🇸 diplomacy, another group of political prisoners is expected to be released. Eduard Palchys is reportedly among those released. He was serving 13 years. While he was in prison, his daughter Emilia was born — she has not seen her father in real life.

A second iOS exploit has been spotted in use by Russian spies to infect websites and hack visitors' iPhones. This one works on iOS 18, and appeared in a very reusable form, so will likely proliferate. If you haven't updated your iPhone, now's the time. wired.com/story/hundreds…

Hundreds remain political prisoners in Azerbaijan Among them are independent journalists, opposition figures, human rights defenders, and religious believers. Many report violence, ill-treatment, poor conditions, and lack of adequate medical care. In February 2025, journalist Nurlan Libre (Gahramanli) was detained in connection with the Meydan TV case. More than ten people have been charged under so-called “economic” offences — a common way to pursue politically sensitive cases. Meydan TV is an independent online outlet that gives a platform to voices often excluded from public debate. All those charged deny the accusations and say the case is linked to their work. On January 16, 2026, Nurlan began an indefinite hunger strike after reporting violence by prison guards. According to his wife, his condition has significantly deteriorated: he is weak, has difficulty moving and speaking, and suffers from severe headaches. Medical care remains limited to basic checks. Journalist Fatima Movlamli, also detained in the same case, has joined the hunger strike. She began on March 8, protesting restrictions on family visits, which are only allowed through a glass barrier. Their colleagues from Meydan TV have also protested in court, calling for their right to a fair defence to be respected. We stand in solidarity with political prisoners in Azerbaijan — and recall that repression in the country has a long history, including during the Soviet period.

“Hundreds of thousands of lives have been lost as a result of this unprovoked illegal aggression [against Ukraine]. No one can bring them back. But countries in this room still can save thousands of captives of this war… We often hear about discussions over territories, sanctions, frozen assets, rare earth minerals. When the talks resume, isn’t it time to put people first?” My address at the 61st session of the UN Human Rights Council.

Italy’s "Piracy Shield" forces providers to block content in under 30 minutes without judicial oversight, which leads to overblocking (taking down legitimate websites alongside infringing ones). We're appealing a €14M fine to protect the Internet from automated censorship and ensure infrastructure providers aren't forced to overblock. cfl.re/4cMh0WA

I wrote about the “messenger class”—the journalists, academics, tech workers, nonprofit leaders, and political professionals who set the boundaries of public debate. The problem with media bias is often oversimplified to "they're too left wing" but the real problem is far more difficult to counteract. theargumentmag.com/p/shoot-the-me…

Outraged at the surge in antisemitic attacks on synagogues and Jewish community buildings across Europe, I condemn them unreservedly. Today I met with the Chief Rabbi of Strasbourg and Bas-Rhin, Harold-Abraham Weill, and other Jewish leaders, including Rabbi Mendel Samama, representative of the Conference of European Rabbis to the European institutions, to express my firm solidarity and support.

this was the most important Oscar speech of the night tbh "Mr. Nobody Against Putin is about how you lose your country. What we saw when working with this footage is that you lose it through countless small, little acts of complicity: when we act complicit when a government murders people on the streets of our major cities, when we don't say anything when oligarchs take over the media and control how we can produce it and consume it, we all face a moral choice. But luckily even a nobody is more powerful than you think."
