@fizzbhau @TeddyChassin @ettingermentum sure and none of that would have worked if Bernie had already persuaded 50%+1 of the voters to vote for him. the fact that everyone else’s voters swung instantly to Biden after they dropped out isn’t absolving Bernie’s campaign, it’s condemning it

@TeddyChassin @ettingermentum I think Bernie campaign made egregious mistakes and it's part of the reason they lost. But come on, we literally know Obama made the call for everyone but Warren to drop out and support Joe Biden, it's on the record. nbcnews.com/politics/2020-…

@daveweigel imo people saying Dems won’t do this underestimate the impact of some members in these D+80 VRA districts holding on to these seats until they’re wheeled out in a pine box and/or treating them as an inheritance to pass to their children upon vacancy. maximally unsympathetic

Another way to look at it: Let's say a blue tsunami came out of nowhere and Democrats won a trifecta in South Carolina. It would be in their interest to create *two* seats they could reliably win, one in Columbia and one in Charleston. Not one super-safe seat for Clyburn to win

Both parties can nominate black candidates statewide or in majority-white districts. But the safe VRA district is having the last rites administered. It's in GOP's interest to split them into safe GOP seats, and Dems' interest to split them into safe Dem seats. The wrinkle: Some blue states passed their own race-conscious VRAs and will need to scrap them (or find a plaintiff who will) before 2028 ag.ny.gov/resources/orga…

The Congressional Black Caucus reached a record 58 House members this Congress. Now, thanks to a Supreme Court redistricting ruling that’s expected to dramatically diminish Black representation on Capitol Hill, the CBC is fighting a five-alarm fire that could devastate its membership. nbcnews.com/politics/congr…

They were playing that Mighty Mighty Bosstones song (the one) at the gym. The whole place was so pumped every time the chorus came on. Some songs will always just have it.

@jbarro somehow the Dems looked at a bench with four statewide officials who were elected with boffo margins in 2022 and ended up with three below replacement level Senate candidates

I would genuinely have far less heartburn about Abdul’s candidacy if he’d demonstrated an ability to 1) get elected to anything previously or 2) excite anyone who didn’t already agree with him. This isn’t twitch. It’s real life.

centrist libs still desperately trying to make the argument that a muslim doctor who’s dedicated his life to m4a is unelectable in michigan. they were professionally wrong when they complained abt w abdul campaigning w me. they’re still professionally wrong. have humility.

@daveweigel @TylerDinucci Right, Newsom has every incentive to be a maximalist and go tit for tat with the GOP so there’s very little chance that striking down the current map doesn’t end with him pulling all the levers to go for 52-0 (which he might do anyway!)

@TylerDinucci Right, you actually want Newsom to keep all those safe black and Latino seats instead of stretching Boyle Heights into Kern County.

@mattyglesias @aoxamaxoa yeah I know it’s trying to prove a counterfactual but iirc Shor said they polled Obama vs Trump as a gag back in 2016 and it had Obama beating Trump in a landslide

@mattyglesias @shannonrwatts It’s not that deep. He’s boring and brings zero new ideas, it’s hard to get enthusiastic about a candidate and playbook that’s been running for decades. Hope he wins though.

platner winning feels like cruz beating dewhurst or paul beating grayson, an open primary with a clear establishment pick losing to a grassroots challenger. we haven't yet seen the ultimate tea party move of a random inoffensive incumbent losing a primary like bennett in utah

@Robillard @daveweigel at the same time, you always got the sense that she never *really* wanted to run and was almost doing this as a favor to Schumer and the DSCC (who in turn may have underestimated Platner)

@RowlandRIVALS “Program X recruits itself” is one of the biggest lies that fans tell themselves despite it being constantly disproven

Of course the moral here is Kentucky's brand has only ever helped inasmuch as it allowed Kentucky to hire the best coaches. You are as good as your coach, not as good as your brand.

For 15 years you had almost absolute confidence that Kentucky could beat any program, anywhere, for any recruit. Just two years later it's "believe it when I see it."
