Agents in disguise told school staff they had parent's permission to take kids out of class—that was outright lie. "They quickly hid their IDs," when asked for info about the details of who they worked for. Agents arrived in unmarked cars & wore casual clothing—leading to confusion about who they actually were. The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that the agents worked for them—but claimed they were not technically ICE agents. On February 27, 2026, the LAUSD Board of Education unanimously voted (7-0) to place Superintendent Alberto Carvalho on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an ongoing FBI investigation.
