#Lithuania has contributed €10mln in voluntary funding to the 🇪🇺 Ukraine Facility, reinforcing the Team Europe effort to support Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction. We stood with #Ukraine since the first day of Russia’s full‑scale aggression and will continue supporting Ukraine’s long‑term recovery and resilience. Since 2022, Lithuania’s assistance to 🇺🇦 has exceeded €1.7 billion.

On March 16, the EU Energy Council discussed the European Grids Package, aiming to boost cross-border infrastructure and strengthen electricity system resilience. The Energy Minister Vaičiūnas stressed the need to protect critical infrastructure and ensure its rapid restoration.

Today Lithuanians all over the world celebrate restoration of Indepence. March 11, 1990 was and remains a miracle that brought us back on the world map. Today we celebrate freedom and cherish it day by day - for us it is never for granted 🇱🇹

#Iran’s dictator Ali Khamenei is gone. Many dictators think they are eternal. We just saw one more disappear. The hope for better future, for Iranian people - but also for Israelis and all of the #MiddleEast - seems to have come closer.

Lithuania strongly condemns the unprovoked Iran’s attacks against Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. National sovereignty and territorial integrity must be respected both in the Middle East and in Europe. We call for an immediate end to such destabilizing aggression.

I am closely monitoring developments in the Middle East and remain in contact with allies. Iran’s attacks further undermine regional security and constitute a violation of international law. The actions of the Iranian regime continue to destabilise the region and contribute to broader insecurity beyond it. Iran’s ongoing support for Russia’s war against Ukraine is part of the same pattern of behaviour that threatens international peace and security.

The stronger the EU’s eastern border regions, the stronger the entire Union – and its founding promise of peace, security, and stability. Grateful to the President @vonderleyen for an in-depth discussion. With colleagues @EvikaSilina and @KristenMichalPM, we stressed that 🇱🇹🇱🇻🇪🇪 external borders are Europe’s borders. We must act together, faster and in solidarity to strengthen Europe’s security and resilience, especially in the face of growing hybrid threats. As the fifth year of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine begins, EU support for Ukraine – including its EU path – must remain firm, and pressure on the aggressor must increase. EU enlargement is a strategic investment in lasting peace, stability, and a stronger, more united Europe.

Russia is deterred not by words, but by real defensive power. Lithuania is boosting its investment in security & defence, and it is vital that all Allies move in the same direction, especially as hybrid threats grow. Grateful to @SecGenNATO for today’s excellent discussion. NATO is the backbone of transatlantic security, and a strong, united alliance of equal partners – the US and Europe – is key for effective deterrence & defence. The outcome of the war in Ukraine is no less important. Ukraine seeks peace, Russia only imitates it. Our duty is to help ensure that peace comes as soon as possible – and that it is lasting & just.

Started my visit to Brussels by meeting @eucopresident. We focused on the EU’s security and support for Ukraine – two closely interconnected issues. I emphasized the importance of a unified EU position on security, defence, and support for Ukraine, stressing that Europe must speak with one voice when addressing fundamental geopolitical challenges. We must maximize pressure on Russia to strengthen Ukraine’s negotiating position and work toward a just and sustainable peace. At the same time, we should not lose sight of other strategic priorities, including EU enlargement with Ukraine and Moldova. I strongly support the integration of both countries into the European Union and remain committed to advancing their accession process.

From hybrid threats to demographic pressure and economic impact. Our Eastern regions bordering Russia, Belarus and Ukraine are facing a multitude of challenges. We must support these regions and show our solidarity. Because our security lies in their strength, resilience and stability. With today's Eastern border regions strategy, we're strengthening their security, while boosting growth and regional prosperity. To protect those who protect us.

It’s a pleasure to welcome you to Vilnius on 🇱🇹 Independence Day, @EP_President @RobertaMetsola. 108 years ago, Lithuania restored its statehood as an independent & democratic state. History teaches us that freedom and independence must never be taken for granted – they require constant safeguarding. That same lesson guides us today: as Europeans, we must all continue to strengthen our common home and stand with Ukrainians defending their country and the ideals we share.
