The Eph/ephrin pathway is a core driver of vascular leak and endothelial damage in #sepsis but can be targeted effectively with an Eph decoy, show new experiments involving mice and samples from hospitalized children. @neurocomplement @UQMedicine scim.ag/6JF

Eph/ephrins and vascular leak markers were also increased in 91 children with suspected sepsis, with levels of Ephrin A1 and EphA2 correlating with severity of organ dysfunction. Targeting Eph/ephrin signaling may be a promising approach to treat endothelial dysfunction in sepsis

Excited to share our work in @ScienceTM developing a new treatment approach for sepsis. We targeted the vascular endothelium by inhibiting Eph-ephrin interactions with EphA4-Fc, which reduced vascular leak, inflammation, and mortality in septic mice tinyurl.com/4r72e8aa

2/3 Xaria demonstrates human macrophages respond bidirectionally to C5a in synergy with a multitude of pathogen molecular triggers. Surprisingly, non TLR PRRs show the greatest enhancement of cytokine release with C5a receptor activation (eg. Dectin-1 / cGAS-STING)
