Speeding drivers are either aware they are speeding, and are therefore deliberately committing an offence, or they are unaware they are speeding and therefore not competent enough to be driving at all. All speeding drivers deserve to be prosecuted, no exceptions.

It's always an "accident" because nobody wants to admit making bad decisions while driving. Speed, distractions, whatever.

@PeterSweden7 @CatrickPristys It’s only on six roads, and only because they’re closing one of the main roads of the city to perform some rail improvement work

I don't think you realize how tyrannical 15 minute cities actually is. In Oxford, they will divide the city into six zones. Drivers must apply for a permit to be allowed to drive outside their designated zone. A permit grants a ration of 100 free travel days per year. If you exceed your driving ration, you will be fined. The whole idea is to enc people to stay inside their zones and not drive their car much. Just like the Soviet Union.

The debate about Intelligent Speed Assistance and other techniques would go away if we had a culture that valued human life enough to drive carefully. Common argument #1 against vehicle speed limiters is "what if you need to drive 100 MPH because it's an emergency?!" We all know you've never been in such a circumstance. Besides, the real emergency is driving 100 MPH, putting lives around you in danger. Common argument #2 is "I don't want Big Brother tracking me." Putting aside the fact that there are ways for vehicle speeds to be limited without the government tracking you, this argument only works in a fantasy land where the government doesn't already know your every move. I don't like it any more than the next person, but doesn't anyone remember what Edward Snowden exposed? Your phone, your apps, your desktop computer, your messages you thought were encrypted... In the real world, people's lives are being forever altered or ended in preventable crashes. Preventable crashes that occurred because selfish people were in a hurry and refused to slow down.

#OpSnap | Record 📸 Report 📝 Result ✅ We have had over 7,300 submissions from road users this year of driving that falls way below the standard we expect to see on our roads. By you submitting your footage, we can prosecute drivers. More➡️ orlo.uk/tFcwV

@keepitreal_82 @Boenau Honestly they should solve the issue thru insurance companies. Cyclist is involved? Cyclist automatically gets 100% of the liability and blame for the accident

Engineers design a road for 55mph, but the speed limit is 35mph. Drivers go 55 because it's *engineered* to go 55. Maybe the licensed engineers who approve/stamp design plans should be required to pay 10% of speeding tickets.

@Boenau Easy, just set the speed limit according to the design speed. Better yet, remove the speed limit for a while and set it to what people actually drive at

Safer Roads Yorkshire@SaferRoadsYorks·
Common misunderstanding: cyclists don't take the centre lane to hold anyone up. It's simply to prevent unsafe manoeuvres. When it becomes safe, we move to secondary - 50cm + from the kerb.
Mark Sharon@MarkSharon_DP

@WillTatton @SaferRoadsYorks So you agree riding primary deliberately to prevent a car passing because of some notion it is not safe to pass is also obstruction. Glad that's settled.

Absolutely the design speed on urban minor roads should be 10mph. It’ll take a load of work, but it should be the aspiration. Why not? If you’re driving on these roads for the first/last mile of your journey it will add only 6 minutes

In most of the UK the old 30mph limit is being rejected as no longer fit for purpose in cities, towns and villages where motor and un-motored people mix on the roads. The 30mph Abyss video shows why 30mph is not appropriate as a general or national speed limit for built-up roads. bit.ly/4ft0QPF
