Please ask for pain relief at the time of booking your NHS appointment. Last year there was a directive the every woman should be asked if she’d like it . This takes time to filter thru . So do ask . It made a big diff to me .

My old GP said she could get a coil in. I hadn’t had children. Nearly kicked her because of pain. Ended up having a GA. Not everyone is offered what Davina had re. Local Anaesthetic and women have diff pain thresholds #C4DAVINAPILL

@DrRosemaryL Engagement matters here. Not everyone can’t be bothered to turn up. Some women worry desperately about pain with a smear. Pre clinic phone calls or reminder texts could be a way forward.

I did an extra surgery today doing catch-up smear tests. SEVEN no-shows. Would have been nine but after a phone call two came in. It’s not just bad manners, it’s wasting scarce (weekend!) NHS capacity. There's something systemically wrong where there are no consequences for this
