In 1851, Richard Burton observed that annually, a girl was wed to the tomb of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar. Additionally, certain families also offered their Hindu daughters to the Dargahs.

Bhagwan Jhule Lal is revered as the incarnation of Varuna. Sufis appropriated the Jhule lal ji as Khwaja Khizr or Shahbaz Qalandar. Khwaja Khizr is a "fictitious character" who rescued an Mslm girl from Hindu rules. In reality, such myths were made popular to convert Hindus and capture Hindu temples. Many such temples are now converted to dargahs, not just in Sindh but in India too.
