@derek_lpz@abhornUCRedu I definitely agree! All individuals and students should be given the same opportunities in order to succeed. This means having the right resources in order to get there. @annaaacha
@mmart450@annaaacha This is an issue that needs to be resolved due to how long it’s been present. If this continues on we will one day have no more student athletes. @annaaacha
Student athletes don’t get the recognition they deserve they are getting explode by using their face and special attributes to get money. All this is happening and the athlete is getting nothing and the schools and coaches are making millions off of them. #ucr150@annaaacha
@Grace_P_Bacon@annaaacha I absolutely agree! The treatment that college athletes get for all that they do is truly unbelievable. Change needs to happen soon. @annaaacha
Every week I’m continually dumbfounded at how the NCAA justifies their mistreatment of collegiate athletes under the guise of amateurism. From the lawsuits to the exorbitant amount of student fees charged to these students every year, when will change be made?@annaaacha#ucr150
@Alicia_Rendon11@abhornUCRedu I agree with your statement so much! Student athletes should be able to do the same thing as any normal student does. @annaaacha
@derek_lpz@abhornUCRedu I 100% agree. Whether you were a student athlete or even just a typical individual this is something that shouldn’t be overlooked. It is so important that athletes keep their health up in order to perform their best. @annaaacha#ucr150
@elizabe03477715@abhornUCRedu You have a great point! Schools should try to do more in order to help their athletes and students in general. For the amount of efforts students put in to get into a university they should feel supported! @annaaacha
Hey women in the NCAA, how much of this list does your school actually check of? 🤔 Learning more about Title IX and what they require is so interesting because you wouldn’t expect so by simply taking a look at athletic programs… #UCR150@abhornUCRedu
@cjime074@annaaacha I definitely agree with you! Nothing that is promised ends up being there for athletes leading them into a commitment full of empty promises. #ucr150@annaaacha
Do you believe that the National Letter of Intent puts more stress on athletes or do you believe it is more beneficial to them because they have a legal documentation and commitment to an institution. @annaaacha#ucr150
@yeesssiiii_@ElissaMMonteiro I agree with your statement so much! Student athletes need guidance and help to push them in the right direction. They are still growing mentally just like any other student is #ucr150@annnaacha
Education is something that needs to be emphasized a lot more to student athletes because becoming a pro athlete is not reality for most of them. Although a career isn’t guaranteed either, they have higher chances of using their education than the sport #ucr150@ElissaMMonteiro
Something that I found interesting was that college athletes often times get stereotyped and mistreated even though they bring a lot of attention and revenue to their institutions. @annnaacha#ucr150
@trinbans@KatryaLy Hi Trinnity! I definitely agree with you. I think this is even worse because the schools is TRYING to claim themselves of a moto that they truly are not following. In this day and age I think this is something that should no longer be accepted.
@ImDario27@TA_ED50 i definitely agree with your statement. I wrote a very similar one for this week. I truly believe that college athletes deserve more than what they have been given.
@emilyVM723@abhornUCRedu I do think a big part of this issue is that there are more crowds at men’s sports events over women. This should be changed but where do we start ?
@alpxrzj@abhornUCRedu I definitely agree with sports being segregated! Most schools have certain sports that they prioritize and that can cause a diversion within the athletic community.
@Mariaplasmerc@abhornUCRedu Hi Maria! My thoughts are very similar to yours and I had said some of the same points you mentioned. What do you think we could do to encourage a more healthy lifestyle for college athletes?
Ego-identities are prevalent— posing a risk to the health of student athletes. It is evident that they become more likely to abuse drugs & develop eating disorders in an attempt to increase their performance & keep their scholarships @abhornUCRedu#ucr50
@izyyybel01@TA_ED50 I had a very similar perspective as you in my post as well. I think that mental health is very low priority to universities because as their students win more games their stats go up causing more students to want to go there.
Athletes balancing their academics, social life and athletics can be stressful. It can lead to mental health. All the pressure they have usually leads to low performance in their academics. Are athletes mental health overlooked?
#UCR50@TA_ED50
@izyyybel01@TA_ED50 I definitely agree with your statement. As these students are hustling in order to win games and do well in school they are faced with little to no money when doing so. Student athletes definitely deserve a certain salaries for all that they do.
This week reading was interesting college coaches get paid more than faculties. But athletes put in the hard work when trying to balance both their education and sport yet they don’t get paid. But why aren’t professors getting paid better?
#UCR50@TA_ED50
@_alexander222@KatryaLy Hi Alex I am on the same route as you in terms of how coaches shouldn’t be trusted in terms of how they may treat their students. Some make their students feel at the absolute low after losing a game or doing bad in practice.
