@RubyAnsari_RA Bulk ITRs - In most cases this is a trap for the chartered accountant.

A very old client of mine with bulk itr contacted me again. All it did was, made me so anxious and spiral n reminded me of that difficult time. Just for 20 ITRs theyd bargain way too hard for fees. Claiming we have so many other CA contacts and all. But I was very clear from the start, bulk or not I won't do any itr for less than 1500. Then theyd spend way too much time in my office, just wasting our time about tds amount, matching it and also asking for it over n again on the phone for the same thing. Then came the balance sheet figures, confirmation n reconfirmation of loans amount. Then after filing comes delay in paying me and me constant reminding that refund has nothing to do with my fees. And then constant calling when we will get the refund. This was a learning experience for me on what type of clients i definitely don't want and what id tolerate n won't. Knowing that money was worth nothing with what me and my team had to handle.

@RubyAnsari_RA I have seen few first hand instances of separations not handled well impacting career for trivial reasons.

@RubyAnsari_RA One can look at each client separately. What is their requirement, what are compliance aspects and what is quality of data and documentation in each case even with same client That helps set right expectations. Some clients may not agree at first but it sets tone for firm &You.

I have made many mistakes in my professional career I'm sure but the biggest one is preparing financial statements by default of all my 44AD clients. The goal was to assist them when they apply for a loan. I learned that from my articleship period but i don't need to continue doing that anymore. Now I'm changing that to - only prepare when they apply for a loan and also to be charged separately from income tax return fees. God i have lost so much income opportunity to charge appropriately for the value of my work 😕 Lesson learned.

@RubyAnsari_RA If it’s a new client you can start documenting the quality of information, data and documentation provided which helps you build clear scope as you move forward year on year and then scope helps build a case for fees. Otherwise just a gesture every time will leave one exploited

As a CA if you file one clients gst returns and ITR. How many calls are reasonable for that client to make in a year? When to start charging for calls that we answer? #CA

@RubyAnsari_RA The article-ship is all about applying the theory and principles in real time scenarios. The firm should focus on mentoring the students not only in technical aspects but also client engagement and relationship development, planning and prioritising, handling multiple things, etc

My stipend was 1500 😆 i always did like it , as it was my first own money. That financial freedom on my face with just 1500 was innocent and very delusional 😂 It's always been controversial how much a firm should pay rather I feel it should be how much work they allot as well The workload should be in line with the stipend, keeping in mind that articles are students first, not employees. Their focus shouldn't change from learning to completing endless tasks to maximize a firm's manpower. So I request to CA firms don't make them work as if they are employees to gain out of them. Invest in mentoring them and giving them meaningful exposure. That's what articleship is meant to be.
