@kyliebytes I recently moved here, after living in NYC and DC.. and really enjoying it. SF has a distinct vibe that you def don’t see anywhere in the US.

Hi @technology. Some news! I’m going to be taking time away from the show and technology to be a dad. That’s been my biggest goal in life for quite some time. Will be back here and there for special shows and big moments. Otherwise, see you some time in 2025.

Yesterday was my last day at Engadget. I can't thank the small but mighty crew there enough for giving me a home. I'm starting a new role at a new place that I am incredibly excited about – but before that I'm taking some time off. More soon! 🎉

@ChaseSupport @Chase Here's some advice. When a customer books a hotel w/ Chase Travel and the booking isn't found when the customer arrives - dont blame your vendors and waste the customer's time with time consuming calls - take accountability. Actions speak louder than words.

For anyone in DC who exclusively works from home, I cannot accurately describe to you just how bad traffic has been this week. Actual, real, literal gridlock.

Trees matter. And when temperatures begin to climb like this weekend, trees in DC cool off neighborhoods as much as 10-15 degrees compared to areas with less green space Map from @NOAAClimate

@PranavDixit Most people don’t realize the messy immigration system in this country, including for legal migrants. So sorry you had to go through that and so much more, but big congrats on finding a solution and the new gig, and look forward to seeing more amazing stories from you.

*Long, impulsive and earnest tweet alert* Exactly a year ago today, BuzzFeed News shut down, laying off dozens of my colleagues and me months after relocating me to the U.S. To say that the months ahead were hard is an understatement. I was far from finding my feet in the country and I was on a visa linked to BuzzFeed. I spent the summer interviewing at so many places that I’ve lost count. Unfortunately, the bottom fell out of the American journalism market around the same time, and despite my stellar record of impactful work for years, I had tons of doors slammed in my face — and there simply weren’t that many doors to knock on to begin with. My mental health was a wreck. To this day, I wake up in the middle of the night before falling back into a restless sleep. I felt isolated and abandoned and I went through an enormous personal and professional identity crisis — suddenly, I didn’t know who I was or where I was going. A few people suggested going back to India, but honestly, packing my bags and flying back would have been the easiest thing to do — and I didn’t move us here to take the easy way out. In August, I applied for and received my second O “extraordinary ability” visa on my own. That was the first step in laying the foundation of rebuilding my shattered self-confidence. Then, I started pitching. I ended up getting bylines in Vox, The Information, Al Jazeera, TIME, and The Guardian. Each story made me feel like I was finally worth something again. Crucially, it let me continue living in the Bay Area. When I got my current job, I almost couldn’t believe it. The primary emotion I felt was relief, not excitement — this is a market when tons of talented American journalists are out of work, and the fact that I have something in hand feels like a minor miracle. As tough as the year was, it taught me a ton. It turns out that that I stronger and a lot more resilient than I thought. I also learned to decouple myself and my self-esteem from the brand I worked for. And finally, it taught me to never stop trying and being open to all kinds of opportunities. Rejections are still tough, but I’ve learned to wear each one like a badge of honor. One day, I’ll look back at all of them as a reminder of a time when I kept pushing despite them. I don’t know what 2024 is going to bring or where it’s going to take me. And honestly, it still doesn’t feel easy. I’m an outsider with an unconventional career path in an industry not really known for employing many outsiders like me. But I know for a fact that I am much better equipped to deal with whatever it throws my way and I can’t wait to see what happens next — in journalism or beyond.
