We’re thrilled to see our advanced ML models and EMG hardware — that transform neural signals controlling muscles at the wrist into commands that seamlessly drive computer interactions — appearing in the latest edition of @Nature. Read the story: nature.com/articles/s4158… Find more details on this work and the models on @github: github.com/facebookresear…

I’m thrilled to be joining @CarnegieMellon’s Machine Learning Department (@mldcmu) as an Assistant Professor this Fall! My lab will work at the intersection of neuroscience & AI to reverse-engineer animal intelligence and build the next generation of autonomous agents. Learn more here: anayebi.github.io/files/NeuroAge… Feel free to email me if you’re interested or want to collaborate! I’m able to advise PhD students who are either in any department in SCS (@SCSatCMU) or are in Neural Computation (@cmuneurosci).

Exciting announcement: I have joined @CSHL as an assistant professor. My lab will focus on NeuroAI – figuring out how neural networks (bio & silico) represent and process information.

I'm incredibly saddened today to hear about the passing of Prof. Craig Henriquez, one of my first research advisors when I was an undergrad. Craig was an incredible mentor, scientist, and compassionate human being; he will be deeply missed. today.duke.edu/2023/08/craig-…

I just defended my PhD. Feels like resurfacing after a long hold down, good I was wearing my lucky board shorts 🏄‍♂️ I can’t find words to thank all the people that helped me on my way and made this possible 🙏

Thrilled to be staying at Harvard in a slightly new role of "Associate Director of Comp Neuro Training"! Focusing on education in such a supportive department, and having the flexibility to work on endeavors such as @neuromatch, makes this a dream job for me

For those of you who have been following our RNN reverse-engineering research, check out our latest advance (w/ @niru_m). We figured out how to understand contextual input processing in a stream of inputs: how RNNs understand "not good" vs "very good" in sentiment analysis.

#tweeprint time for our new work out on arXiv!📖We've been trying to understand how recurrent neural networks (RNNs) work, by reverse engineering them using tools from dynamical systems analysis—with @SussilloDavid. arxiv.org/abs/2004.08013

@SussilloDavid @niru_m Have you looked into geometric singular perturbation/Fenichel theory (colloquially called "fast-slow analysis")? You may be able to have your cake and eat it too; recover low-dimensional manifolds which organize RNN dynamics without being handcuffed to linearization.
