@SamAmadi These are disturbing analysis and observations out there. National revenues are now being siphoned to fund political activities and personal interests. This is pure anarchy, and if nothing is done immediately, it will consume everyone.

People often cite the observation that transplanting a badly behaved person into a well structured society often leads to behavioral improvement, as proof that strong constitutions and rule of law are a dominant factor for societal development. For that inference to hold, the corollary must also hold. Applying a strong constitution and rule of law in a society of badly behaved persons should lead to similar improvements. Unfortunately, Nigeria and South Africa prove it wrong. Nigeria copied much of its constitutional law and governance structures from the Americans. Post-apartheid South Africa inherited many legal structures that codified the rule of law from the a government that had superintended significant industrial development albeit with appalling social imbalance. Nonetheless, both countries, to varying degrees, are still plagued with deep systemic failures. Finally, across the West, the immigration debate appears to be driven primarily by a concern around “values”, a euphemism that can mean anything from racism to legitimate concerns about unwanted shifts in cultural norms. It is definitely not defined by any immediate concerns that immigrants will change the constitution of their host countries. All these observations suggest is that the dominant culture of the people is a stronger deteminant of socioeconomic success than the codified laws of the land. As the old saying goes - culture will eat your strategy for breakfast.

This, in my opinion, is a VERY wrong take. Artemis 2 will not bring us new Nigerians from outer space. A better Constitution will help to make us change our behaviour. We are no more problematic than the people of other countries. We just lack constraints to bad behaviour.
Ayodeji Oshin@ayooshin

@DrJoeAbah Doc, a new constitution will not do us any good if we don't change our behaviour. Our constitution is not the problem. We are the problem.

The UK announces a policy to reintegrate with the EU but couches it in quintessentially British doublespeak. ”We want to be more ambitious. Closer economic and security cooperation. A partnership that recognizes our shared values, interests, and future. A partnership for the dangerous world that we must navigate together.” Translation: We’ve realised that America cannot be relied upon and we now know that the lone wolf dies but the pack survives.

Lego originated in 1932 in the workshop of Ole Kirk Christiansen, a Danish carpenter based in Billund, Denmark. Originally a manufacturer of wooden toys, the company pivoted to plastic bricks in 1949, inspired by early interlocking blocks, eventually patenting the modern, stable Lego brick design on January 28, 1958. The company remains under the ownership of the Kristiansen family.

Just watched the video of the Iranian woman filming a US-Israeli double tap strike that would claim her life. The fear in her voice is palpable but she does not stutter when she declares her testament of faith - she chose to spend her final and terrifying moments, committing herself to her faith. Her voice, its tremble and strength, brought me to tears. For the past 3 years, we have seen so much similar footage come out of Gaza, out of Lebanon - last moments caught on camera, last moments drenched in fear, resistance and a clinging to God. You don’t have to be a person of faith - I don’t even think you need to like religion, or Islam - to understand the profundity of what we are witnessing in these moments. These are not inevitable deaths, they are engineered. And what we are witnessing, over and over again, are human beings in their final moments - at their most vulnerable, most alone - making one last act of defiance against a world that has decided they are not worthy of continuing to live.

Iran does not have missile superiority. Think about it, Israel and the US keep eliminating Iranian Leadership, why is Iranian missiles not targeting political targets too? Again I believe strongly that Iranian response on the energy facilities of the Gulf States is being encouraged. Israel strikes at their Gas, Iran strike backs, Gas price goes through the roof, US sells Venezuelan oil and Gas at high prices and use the profit to cover for some of the losses incurred on Trump's tariff war. From Trump, to Macron, they keep insisting that Iran's energy facilities must not be destroyed, but they have no problems when Ukraine is blowing up those of Russia like the Nord Stream and others.

I don’t think anyone thinks the US government didn’t understand or anticipate Iran’s escalation paths. Iran actually published warnings stating what they would do if attacked and they specifically mentioned retaliatory attacks against energy infrastructure, and weaponosation of the Strait of Hormuz. What @olumidecapital said is the “US President didn’t factor it into consideration”. According to the DNI, he was given the data and in his wisdom, he made a decision to attack first. That decision has been proven to be a very poor and costly one.

Those saying Trump hasn't factored Iran's oil leverage into consideration clearly haven't been paying attention. He has publicly boasted about the US capacity to destroy Iran's entire oil and electricity infrastructure — and explicitly stated he's holding back out of concern for the Iranian people. Whether or not that's the real reason, it makes clear that the consequences have been war-gamed. The restraint itself is the evidence.

Mr President @officialABAT appointed Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd) to help organise our military into a potent force. A fine General who had just been retired from service. His appointment was celebrated by all and sundry. It looked like a breath of fresh air. What does he do? He is out here wearing GCGM on his cap. The first time I have seen someone decorate a hula so much. He is showing his hands too early and making his ambitions too obvious. I have no issue with any such ambitions. If no one around him will tell him, I will do him the favours. It’s a poor look. Even politicians that didn’t (supposedly) accidentally become one aren’t so blatant and out of touch. And amidst such a security challenge, he carries that GCGM cap and goes to do a handshake with the president in London. Was he also invited by the King of England? A conventional politician being so badly behaved would have been bad enough. A recently retired fine officer politicking harder than politicians is where shock comes to meet disgust. And the rank and file are meant to be motivated and excited by these shenanigans? Let those who have been appointed to work do their job. I hope this won’t earn me a Bwala-esque soft block. This is the business of a country and we must take it seriously. I took up a case privately with a minister yesterday because I had direct access to him. And I knew him to be serious and reasonable. I am posting this here publicly because it’s the only option available to me. GCGM needs to fix up and that won’t be by us seeing those initials on his head at all times. We already know he is GCGM. I like the man and he looks like he cares. He just needs to show it. New hires must hit the ground running already and he hasn’t hit the ground, let alone be deemed to be running. We can’t even say he is a new hire now. It’s been over 3 months. It’s still the same difference, if not worse. We want results please. Please go back to the plain cap you wore when you were sworn in and leave these photo ops for ministers that can’t afford not to do them. There are bigger rewards on the back of a job well done. If things get better, I probably wouldn’t notice the cap that much.

@yobaiye @BTOofficial Now that we’ve clarified what the “Parable of the Shower Head” implies, can you expatiate, in direct terms, why you think it is relevant to @BTOofficial’s post about taking two Ambassador-Designates on a tour of the NIS’s technological infrastructure? Thank you.

Pius Adesanmi's "Parable of the Shower Head" is a famous satirical essay that uses a frustrating bathroom experience to critique Nigeria's culture of mediocrity and the lack of civic accountability.  The Core Story The essay describes Adesanmi’s stay at a supposedly "high-end" hotel in Nigeria. He encounters a shower head that is improperly installed or malfunctioning—either it sprays water everywhere except on the person, or it requires a ridiculous "special technique" to work.   When he complains to the hotel staff, they don't see it as a failure of service or quality. Instead, they respond with "Managing" or "That is how it is," implying that the customer should just adapt to the broken system.  Key Themes and Symbols Adesanmi uses this mundane incident as an allegory for the broader Nigerian state: •The Culture of Mediocrity: The broken shower head represents the failing infrastructure and sub-standard services that have become "normal" in Nigeria. •The "Managing" Mentality: He critiques the Nigerian tendency to "manage" (tolerate) dysfunction rather than demanding excellence or holding leaders accountable. •Lack of Meritocracy: The parable highlights how the absence of merit and professional standards in small things (like plumbing) mirrors the same absence in national governance. •Civic Awareness: It serves as a call for "civic instruction," urging citizens to stop accepting the unacceptable and to realize that they deserve better from both private businesses and the government.

Earlier Today, I led former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), and Ambassador-designate to France, Mr. Ayodele Oke, together with former Director General, State Security Service and Ambassador-designate to the United States, Mr. Lateef Are, on an insightful tour at the Headquarters of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS). Accompanied by the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nanna Nandap, and a team of senior officers, the visit went far beyond a routine courtesy call. It was a strategic engagement designed to equip these distinguished diplomats with firsthand knowledge of the transformative reforms we have driven in border management, migration governance, and service delivery under His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, Renewed Hope Agenda. Nigeria is a nation that is modernizing rapidly, embracing technology for efficiency and security, clearing long-standing bottlenecks, and prioritizing citizen dignity and national interest. As a government, by bridging domestic progress with our diplomatic outreach, we ensure Nigeria's story abroad is told accurately, positively, and powerfully, one that reflects innovation, resilience, and forward momentum rather than outdated perceptions.

I stumbled upon this amazing debate on the importance of preserving jury trials in the British judicial system. The orator—Sir Geoffrey Cox— displayed some of the finest tools of the art—rhetorical dexterity, stoicism, substance, and a powerful range, movement, and balance in his delivery. An excellent oratory that is increasingly becoming a lost art.
