@TryingAgain2X @Osint613 Whatever the risks to the petrodollar, increased purchases of oil from the US only serve to mitigate those risks.

@Osint613 We are at risk of losing the petro-dollar status for all ME shipments. If that happens, our economy is toast.

Interesting to note: The United States was producing 13.58 million barrels per day in 2025, about 16% of global crude supply. It was exporting roughly 4 million barrels per day of crude. Iran shuts the Strait of Hormuz. U.S. April exports jumped to 4.9 million barrels per day, and May is tracking 5.2 million, an all time record. 28 supertankers are booked for May. Normally it is around 5. Asian buyers that once depended on Hormuz are now turning to U.S. supply. In some strange way, the Strait of Hormuz being blocked is actually the biggest payday U.S. oil has ever had.

“A tear rolls down the cheek of NYPD Sgt. Erik Duran, 38, who was sentenced yesterday for the death of Eric Duprey as he tried to flee from a 2023 drug raid. Duran threw a picnic cooler at Duprey, which knocked him off a scooter, killing him. Lefty Judge Guy Mitchell claimed Duran could have just let him go and arrested him later, and justified the jail time by saying he was sending a "general deterrent" message to police.” "It's a huge miscarriage of justice” former NYPD boss Ray Kelly told The Post.”

@ImMeme0 Every NYPD cop signed up to enforce unconstitutional gun laws. They should all be locked up for life.

🚨BREAKING: NYPD officer who threw a cooler at a fleeing drug dealer has been sentenced to 3–9 years in prison. In 2023, Sgt. Erik Duran was part of a drug sting in the Bronx when a suspect sped away on a scooter toward two officers making another arrest. Trying to protect them, Duran threw a cooler, knocking the suspect off the scooter and causing fatal head injuries. Despite an exemplary record, he was convicted of manslaughter. At sentencing, Judge Guy Mitchell rejected the defense that Duran was safeguarding his team. The judge stated that Duran should have simply let the suspect drive by, adding that "he could've been captured another day." This verdict and sentence represent a profound miscarriage of justice. Activist judges are sending officers who risk their lives to serve and protect to prison, while career criminals continue to terrorize NYC streets with little consequence. The conviction of Sgt. Duran sends a dangerous and unprecedented message: police officers can no longer risk prison for split-second decisions to protect their colleagues or the public. Instead, every suspect, no matter how dangerous or evasive, must be handled with kid gloves. This indefensible outcome undermines law enforcement morale and public safety. It is a shameful day for justice in New York.

I don't know why these guys put their lives on the line for cities like New York city. They don't punish the people most likely to kill you and if you accidently kill one of them? They put you in jail. All for 80k a year. Just wild.

@memeticsisyphus "The state violated my client's constitutional rights." or "The prosecution has not met its burden of proof." from a defense lawyer --> pillar of western jurisprudence, bulwark against tyranny. "My client dindu nuffin." --> lock up the attorney and the defendant.

@groby @moseskagan @_lej44 There's not an end game. Properties just keep getting removed from the market one by one and everybody gets poorer as a result. Much of blue-state governance is like this.

@moseskagan @_lej44 Assuming most of those are nuisance ones (and not actual refusal to make accessible - borne out by stats), what's the end game though? Hoping CA fixes itself? Hoping somebody buys the property? Hoping those five firms fold? Or are you stuck with a perma-vacancy?

the "it's a tax write off" thing is wrong but does anyone know what % of retail vacancy in LA can be explained by owners being incentivized to wait for a higher paying tenant (ie: corporate or a chain) and not wanting their value lowered by locking in lower rent tenant?

Honestly this isn't a strategy; it's a tantrum aimed at an oil well. Hitting energy targets ensures Tehr@n torches its neighbors' facilities in return, which spikes oil prices, crashes global markets, and punishes everyone else. Trump keeps calling it a milit@ry target, but the only real outcome is a permanent blockade of the Strait and $150-a-barrel pain for his own voters. So there is no working strategy, just a m@dman burning down the global gas station while his generals try to find a map.

The United States Armed Forces is making preparations for potential strikes on energy targets across Iran, as President Trump ratchets up his demand for Tehran to open the Strait of Hormuz, with officials stating that an energy source could be considered a legitimate military target if it has been used for military purposes, such as providing fuel for mobile missile launchers, multiple U.S. officials tell the Wall Street Journal.

Imagine you are a working father living in the Midwest, you make 75k a year. You can support your family, but you're not rich. You worry about paying for college. Then you read about some Somalian stealing $1m out of federal healthcare programs. $1 million for the normal guy would eliminate an enormous amount of his stress. The college thing would be covered. Retirement wouldn't appear so daunting. It's why guys like this buy lottery tickets. And instead he pays into the system and watches "newcomers" make a complete ass out of him. This fraud is bad financially, but it just makes a mockery of all the hard work of normal people and tears away at the social fabric.

@mom_of_littles From a bureaucratic point of view, ADHD kids are a classroom management problem, and they must be subdued with medications. So in a perverse way, she's correct.

Son is displaying some pretty severe ADHD behavior along with his sensory processing stuff. Pediatrician gave me an evaluation to fill out. Nurse called me back today. Here’s how the convo went. Nurse (super nice): so Dr said it does look like he’s showing some early signs of ADHD. Dr wants to repeat the evaluation in November after he starts school so the teacher can get to know him and fill out the eval. Me: okay and what if we’re homeschooling? Nurse (super rude): uh. IS that what you’re doing? Me: yeah that’s why I said that Nurse (even more rude): okay well if that’s the case then this (the ADHD) doesn’t even matter Me: ……. Like what the heck?? Does ADHD only affect kids negatively when they’re in public school? I hung up the phone after she said that.

A question for everyone: survey data suggests that by the end of the Covid-19 emergency trust in public health institutions had decreased significantly. If you are among the people who reacted that way, why specifically? I'm hoping for long, diverse, individualized answers.

I'm sorry, but watching a bunch of new construction go up around me, it all looks cheap. I watched the house on the left get knocked down and replaced with the one on the right and Left looks like it would have stood for 100 years while Right...... doesn't.

PSA: NEVER buy a house from a boomer. Wait for prices to fall, and/or buy new construction, which typically leads price declines. Housing materials, appliances, and architecture have advanced a lot since the boomers bought their McMansions for a strawberry.

@MorlockP A man took his family to the Grand Canyon in a GMC Yukon XL. You try to ridicule him because his house has vinyl siding, but he's already won and you don't even understand the game. The kids are putting crushed penny souvenirs into those collector books in their rooms.
