The @planetscale team is absolutely cracked 🐐 Today we needed to restore a 270GB backup that was 12 hours past our retention window. I was 99.999% sure we were S.O.L. Posted in Slack → their infra team jumped in right away. Some insane DB sorcery later…the backup was restored in under an hour. Mind you, this was a classic case of user error (me not defining a longer retention period). And they still saved it. If this is not your sign to go with PlanetScale for your primary DB provider, I don't know what is 👏

PlanetScale offers hands-on migration services to move your Postgres databases to PlanetScale. We handle the entire process for you, from assessment to cutover. Free for YC companies and most large workloads. Reach out to see if you qualify. planetscale.com/migrate

We just raised $6.3M seed to help dev teams build and deploy MCP Servers for AI Agents and MCP Apps for ChatGPT / Claude Our open source SDKs crossed 4M downloads when we recorded this video (now already 6M+). Our mission is to build tools that enable humans to build software for agents, as agents will be the primary consumers and manipulators of digital information. We make building with MCP effortless. Create MCP servers or MCP Apps with mcp-use SDK. Preview and iterate with mcp-use Inspector. Connect your GitHub repo to our Manufact Cloud. Instantly make your MCP Server available to billions of AI agents and 800M+ users of ChatGPT / Claude.

Today we're launching the PlanetScale hosted MCP server. Use your favorite AI agent to explore your data, identify slow queries, and improve database performance.

Some recent updates to PlanetScale include the release of Vitess 23, dedicated replica PgBouncers, IP restrictions for Postgres, TimescaleDB extension support, plus $5 single nodes and $50 Metal coming soon. We'll also be at KubeCon next week. Stop by booth 643 to chat!

Quick question : You need to add a new, required phone_number column to your users table, which has 500 million rows. You write a simple ALTER TABLE script. You run it during a "maintenance window." It locks the entire users table for 8 hours while it adds the new column to every row. For 8 hours, no one can sign up or log in. Pain right ? You cannot perform "stop the world" operations on a live, large scale database How will you do a “Painless Database Migration” ?

Just shipped: we've partnered with PlanetScale to make deploying full-stack, database-backed apps using Workers + PlanetScale Postgres (or Vitess!) really, really easy. Link your accounts, create a config, and deploy an app that can scale to millions of QPS without having to think twice. blog.cloudflare.com/planetscale-po… #BirthdayWeek
