The @planetscale team is absolutely cracked 🐐 Today we needed to restore a 270GB backup that was 12 hours past our retention window. I was 99.999% sure we were S.O.L. Posted in Slack → their infra team jumped in right away. Some insane DB sorcery later…the backup was restored in under an hour. Mind you, this was a classic case of user error (me not defining a longer retention period). And they still saved it. If this is not your sign to go with PlanetScale for your primary DB provider, I don't know what is 👏

Supabase had 6 incidents in 8 days. Their status page shows "All Systems Operational" while auth and database are down. No public post-mortems.
If you're running production with paying users, consider:

Quick question : You need to add a new, required phone_number column to your users table, which has 500 million rows. You write a simple ALTER TABLE script. You run it during a "maintenance window." It locks the entire users table for 8 hours while it adds the new column to every row. For 8 hours, no one can sign up or log in. Pain right ? You cannot perform "stop the world" operations on a live, large scale database How will you do a “Painless Database Migration” ?
