If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, is a philosophy degree still useless?

@KVanValkenburg Totally agree and an under talked about take. Additionally, I actually think Rai is a much better outcome than a lot of the other "no-names" that were hanging around. Likeable (imo) foreigner with a good heartfelt backstory.

Don't fall into the trap that this was a bad major b/c one of the stars didn't win. This is why majors are weighted so heavily, because they're hard to win. Sometimes a normal guy gets on a heater. Hand up, it's easy to be negative about what didn't happen. Let's enjoy what did.

@jamierkennedy Great list only change I would make is Rose on 7 - has to be top 3 despite playing his way out of contention. Shot of the tournament and an all time shot if he wins.

Logged into X (formely Twitter) for the first time in over a year, to catch some @fried_egg_golf Players content, and was surprised to discover that LIV apparently has fans now, and they’re all on this app??

Goal or no goal for the Vancouver Warriors' Curtis Dickson? This would've tied the game 10-10.

If this ant, zipping at 1,000,000 mph (447,387 m/s), hits a person, the outcome is grim but fascinating. With its 300,000 joules of kinetic energy—calculated earlier as \( KE = \frac{1}{2} \times 0.000003 \, \text{kg} \times (447,387)^2 \)—it’s like a tiny, hypersonic missile. The ant’s mass is only 3 milligrams, so it’s not going to transfer energy like a wrecking ball. Instead, it’d act more like a bullet on steroids. A 9mm bullet (500-600 joules) punches through flesh, often exiting the body. This ant has 500 times that energy packed into a much smaller package. At that speed, it’d penetrate instantly—faster than nerves can signal pain—likely leaving a clean, narrow hole through skin, muscle, and bone. Think of a high-powered rifle round, but with a twist: the sheer velocity means it’d probably vaporize mid-transit due to air friction, turning into a plasma slug before impact. If it hits a vital spot—like the head or heart—the person’s done for. A headshot would blast through the skull, potentially exploding it from the shockwave and heat. A chest hit could shred the heart or lungs, with the energy dump causing a small cavitation bubble—messy and lethal. Non-vital areas (say, an arm) might “just” lose the limb, with the entry wound cauterized by the ant’s fiery demise and an exit wound like a gunshot’s. The catch? In reality, the ant wouldn’t survive the trip. At 1,000,000 mph, air resistance would torch it into ions within microseconds, dispersing some of that energy as heat and light before it even reaches the target. So, the person might face a searing shockwave and a spray of ant-plasma rather than a solid impact. Still, 300,000 joules is 300,000 joules—enough to ruin anyone’s day, likely fatally if it’s center-mass. 🐜

Re J.T. Miller to #NYR trade: Blueshirts see him as a player who can make the team better now & be key part of future core. He’s good friends w/ Vincent Trocheck. On Chytil: Org felt it had to be smart and prioritize reliability. On Mancini: He was projected as a 5/6D to them.

@Dannyg2233 Not enough people talking about how all this is for a 5th tier National League team. North Americans cannot fathom this level of fandom.

“REF YOU SUCK” chants are inherently awesome and hilarious. But I will never forget when I was 14 at a Calgary Stampeders game, and some beauties behind me got a whole section repeatedly chanting “THE REF BEATS HIS WIFE” Can’t imagine we’ll see peak fandom like that ever again.

@AntiMacro Im with you on that. Im sure most people would think we want to "pussify" the game, but there's truly nothing more annoying than inconsistent reffing in any sport. I just hope that the refs are telling guys when they're getting too close and on the verge of being called.

@nolanoreilly Hockey culture could sure use some changing, the same way it did when the NHL took out hooking, hacking, holding just by starting to call it consistently.

I'm all for playing a lot more physical in the playoffs, but that means hitting everything that moves. This is just crosschecking which is still a penalty. Playoffs are the highest level of the game, it should be called to the highest standard. #VANvsEDM #LetsGoOilers

@AntiMacro But this is just hockey culture, and changing it would piss off too many fans. Besides, this gives people a reason to point to when their team loses. I.e. imagine if McDavid had taken the high stick that Hughes took in game 2 and then the Oilers went on to lose...

@AntiMacro As long as after every single whistle, guys are being punched in the face and not called for it, theres going to be nothing but discrepancy and debated calls. I like to think the refs have some sort of system for when they exercise this discretion.
