EXCLUSIVE: CBSA Doctor Cleared Sidhu for Deportation Days After Suicide Crisis
Court records reveal that a medical expert hired by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) determined Jaskirat Singh Sidhu was medically fit for deportation just days after he was hospitalized for acute suicidal ideation.
Sidhu, the truck driver who pleaded guilty to causing the 2018 Humboldt Broncos bus crash that killed 16 people and injured 13 others, was scheduled for removal to India on April 27, 2026.
On April 16, he was taken to the Peter Lougheed Centre in Calgary with acute suicidal thoughts. He was discharged the following morning after psychiatrist Dr. Nadeem Bhanji assessed him as stable and no longer endorsing suicidal ideation, cancelling the involuntary psychiatric hold (Form 1).
In response to Sidhu’s third deferral request citing mental health concerns, the CBSA commissioned an independent medical review by Dr. Amir Boutros. After examining Sidhu’s medical file, Dr. Boutros concluded there was no objective evidence of current acute psychiatric instability. He cleared Sidhu as medically fit for commercial air travel, recommending only a medical escort as a standard precaution.
Despite this assessment, Federal Court Justice Jocelyne Gagné granted Sidhu a temporary stay of deportation, citing a “serious issue” regarding whether the CBSA officer properly considered the medical evidence of suicide risk. Follow @MediaBezirgan for more.

@EricRStPierre I know a lot of immigrants, now true Canadians, that went through a rigorous process to obtain citizenship. This is a real joke!

@EricRStPierre They should start deporting the ones that are criminals and molesters.
