The big change (like a switch in the economy) was in 2007, when the NPA dropped the charges against Zuma for political expediency. From that point, politicians (in the ANC connected inner circle) have been given impunity. Corruption shifted from skimming in the shadows to wholesale plunder in the open. What followed was the destruction of the police (especially investigative capacity), destruction of the NPA, breakdown of the judicial system (especially the magistrate courts) and oversight in general. The effect on the economy by the 2007 NPA decision was hidden by the 2008 global financial crisis but the SA economic underperformance from that time has been catastrophic. Especially in unemployment and poverty levels.

South Africa used to be way ahead of other African countries and strongly above the average for emerging economies. But something happened the past 20 years, they are falling behind … now they have electricity blackouts, public infrastructure is falling apart. What changed?

***Warning: Theft*** ***Don't camp at Cape Columbine Nature Reserve*** “Last night we stayed at one of the most beautiful camp sites in Paternoster. But while we were sleeping in the rooftop tent some arseholes broke into the bakkie and cleaned us out. Literally robbed us blind while we slept above them. 2 macbooks, dji drone, gymbal and mics, flexible solar panel, brand new Gentech inverter, British passport, my whole bag of clothes, Lisa's bag of toiletries, makeup and her suitcase. We searched the area and recovered our @cadacsa gas geyser. We spend our money supporting these campspots and supporting local businesses in the area, and yet even though Vredenburg Police Station told us this is a regular occurrence, Cape Columbine Nature Reserve don't warn people of the dangers and don't have adequate security on site. This is a warning to our fellow travelers. Be aware and know the facts before camping here. Now we're off to buy toothbrushes and a jacket.”

“It is hard to imagine a more stupid or more dangerous way of making decisions than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong.” ~ Thomas Sowell

I've warned for months that a @JetBlue-@SpiritAirlines merger would have led to fewer flights and higher fares. @JusticeATR and @USDOT were right to stand up for consumers and fight against runaway airline consolidation. This is a Biden win for flyers! apnews.com/article/jetblu…

🚨BREAKING!!! 46 IPCC Scientists REBEL: The Climate Narrative is Crumbling from Within!🚨 Forty-six scientists tied to the IPCC have stepped away or spoken out because their evidence-based views clashed with the official alarmist script. They weren’t “listened to.” Their data didn’t fit the doom-and-gloom story pushed in the Summaries for Policymakers. Don’t trust me, read their own words here! ⬇️ Dr. Robert Balling: “The IPCC notes that ‘No significant acceleration in the rate of sea level rise during the 20th century has been detected.’ This did not appear in the IPCC Summary for Policymakers.” Dr. Lucka Bogataj: “Rising levels of airborne carbon dioxide don’t cause global temperatures to rise…. temperature changed first and some 700 years later a change in aerial content of carbon dioxide followed.” Dr. John Christy: “Little known to the public is the fact that most of the scientists involved with the IPCC do not agree that global warming is occurring. Its findings have been consistently misrepresented and/or politicized with each succeeding report.” Dr. Rosa Compagnucci: “Humans have only contributed a few tenths of a degree to warming on Earth. Solar activity is a key driver of climate.” Dr. Richard Courtney: “The empirical evidence strongly indicates that the anthropogenic global warming hypothesis is wrong.” Dr. Judith Curry: “I’m not going to just spout off and endorse the IPCC because I don’t have confidence in the process.” Dr. Robert Davis: “Global temperatures have not been changing as state of the art climate models predicted they would. Not a single mention of satellite temperature observations appears in the IPCC Summary for Policymakers.” Dr. Willem de Lange: “In 1996 the IPCC listed me as one of approximately 3000 ‘scientists’ who agreed that there was a discernible human influence on climate. I didn’t. There is no evidence to support the hypothesis that runaway catastrophic climate change is due to human activities.” Dr. Chris de Freitas: “Government decision-makers should have heard by now that the basis for the long-standing claim that carbon dioxide is a major driver of global climate is being questioned; along with it the hitherto assumed need for costly measures to restrict carbon dioxide emissions. If they have not heard, it is because of the din of global warming hysteria that relies on the logical fallacy of ‘argument from ignorance’ and predictions of computer models.” Dr. Oliver Frauenfeld: “Much more progress is necessary regarding our current understanding of climate and our abilities to model it.” Dr. Peter Dietze: “Using a flawed eddy diffusion model, the IPCC has grossly underestimated the future oceanic carbon dioxide uptake.” Dr. John Everett: “It is time for a reality check. The oceans and coastal zones have been far warmer and colder than is projected in the present scenarios of climate change. I have reviewed the IPCC and more recent scientific literature and believe that there is not a problem with increased acidification, even up to the unlikely levels in the most-used IPCC scenarios.” Dr. Eigil Friis-Christensen: “The IPCC refused to consider the sun’s effect on the Earth’s climate as a topic worthy of investigation. The IPCC conceived its task only as investigating potential human causes of climate change.” Yet the grift rolls on. New grads, indoctrinated in universities, keep repackaging the same scares for the next generation. “Consensus!” “The Science says!” Endless control through manufactured ignorance. Meanwhile, nature doesn’t care about the narrative. Natural forcings rule. The Sun is cooling. Jet stream gone meridional. Cosmic rays surging, seeding clouds. Result? Wild swings, then global cooling. The emperor has no clothes, and the scientists who know it are finally speaking up. 🔥 Original work from The Dragons Breathe Substack: open.substack.com/pub/thedragons…

What Happened? Despite widespread, urgent requests from farmers for greater access to foot-and-mouth (FMD) vaccines, the Minister, his DG, and the Director of Animal Health sought to postpone yesterday's hearing until 2 June due to their lack of preparedness.

The Minister failed to produce the section 10 scheme that the court ordered he finalise by 17 April. The court: 1️⃣ refused the June 2 postponement, 2️⃣ set a 5 May deadline for the Minister to publish his section 10 scheme, 3️⃣ criticised their sloppy conduct, and 4️⃣ granted a punitive cost order on an attorney-and-client scale.

This is really good for launch competitors, BTW. New Glenn, Terran-R, Stoke, and perhaps Neutron and Eclipse have a bright future BECAUSE SpaceX isn’t trying to just price their launch capability just above cost.
Molly O’Shea@MollySOShea

BREAKING: Eric Romo (@_Eric_Romo), President & COO of Impulse Space (@GoToImpulse) says: "The idea that launch prices are going to fall significantly in the next 5 years is nonsense." "I think there are an awful lot of business models that are predicated on “when Starship allows me to launch for $200 a kilogram…” I think they’re all broken, & all those companies are going to fail." "I think we’ve seen this play out already with Falcon 9 & the pricing around it, where the costs of Falcon 9 allowed SpaceX to deliver the Starlink constellation at a cost per CapEx that made them profitable. But they set the price in the market at something that just barely made it an okay investment to think about OneWeb or Kuiper or anything like that. So they ran that playbook exactly on Falcon 9, & they had their gross margins on Falcon 9—people think we’ll see when the S1 comes out—are like 50% plus. So they could have dropped the price, & they didn’t. They’re going to do the same thing on Starship, because why wouldn’t they? Their internal costs on Starship are going to be whatever they need to be to deploy Starlink & orbital data centers, but they’re going to set the price so that anybody trying to do comms, anybody trying to do orbital data centers—the price is going to be too high. So if you’re a third party relying on them for a lower price of access to space, I think you’re hosed." 00:20 Hot Take Launch Prices 01:41 SpaceX Market Power 02:23 Impulse Space Overview 02:54 Mira For GEO Defense 03:45 Helios Direct To GEO 05:19 Caravan Rideshare To GEO 06:42 Space Economy Reality Check 08:46 Tom Mueller Legends 10:54 SpaceX IPO 13:42 Investor Frenzy & Broomstick 14:05 Alien Eyeballs Outro @elonmusk Recorded at @NYSE x @payloadspace Space Summit
